Are You Still Building Micro Niche Site? Or Niche Site?

I was wondering where's all the micro niche sites thread gone to, the discussion seems dead. Do they still work for real?

Are you working on a niche site that rank over 2,000's keywords at once? Or did you build a site to target just one keyword. As I ask this question, I feel unease to build a website since after the penguin update, most link building strategy seems not working. And require alot of effort and testing to find out which actually work.

So I would love to listen any discussion that involve the topic title. Any replies are appreciated.

IMHO they're crap. It was a tactic that USED to work great but has fallen victim to Google's obsession with removing 'thin content' from their index. Build less and more substantial websites is the answer. Besides, there are lots of costs associated with running TONs of tiny websites.

      Lol you got that right.
"Build less and more substantial websites is the answer.".

My sites were hacked few days ago, and I've spent lots of time cleaning them up, and a big loss in SERP in Google >#100
I'm not saying MNS, in fact I pretty much buy your words. :p

I used to have quite a few of them. Prior to 2010 I used EMDs and monetized them all with Adsense and Text Link Ads. I made really good money. Over time, I saw MANY of them deindexed by Google. Next, they shut off the Adsense. The revenue plummeted.

Now I'm sure people might be using different methods to keep their MN sites going, but there are still a few fatal flaws. They are.

        1) It's expensive to host multiple domains and websites, especially for keywords without great search volume.
        2) They are thin websites by default and are subject to Google wrath.
        3) A network of them looks MFA to Google and can be banished with one quick action.

Even if you're doing okay, it only takes one algo adjustment or manual action to kill your income.

Running fewer more substantial websites means:

        1) Your site isn't "thin"
        2) You can rank for more than one tight range of keywords.
        3) You're less likely to get deindexed or banned from Adsense because you're not violating the 'spirit' of guidelines.
        4) As you continue to work on one site, you can take it to the 'next level,' which never happens with your hundreds of small sites.

I've been building MNS even to this day, but i'm also trying to learn how to properly build an authority site.

There are a few risks to building MNS, but I do a lot of split testing to not all my sites follow the same model.

MNS might not be as easy to do as they were back in the day but they're still alive and well and I predict it will stay that way simply because there will always be low competition keywords that don't have relevant content ranked at the top of the SERP

It is better to build a website with lots of valuable content on various topics. Google love large websites. More number of web pages a website have the more likely it is going to rank in Google. Small websites are difficult to rank.

    • As long as you find a profitable niche and identify the best keywords, you can use both strategies. However, if you have the time and resources needed, it is better to set up an authority site. This will help you generate more profit in the long run.
