How Is This Site Ranking?

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to rank for a certain keyword, and while I've seen no results yet (started a week ago), I continuously research my competitors. Now, the first page contains a Page from Amazon, Squidoo, a Big Company In my Niche (Think of my niche as electronics, and the company is futureshop, just not on that scale), as well as PRWeb, and a Best Price type website. The other 3 sites are doing affiliate marketing, which I am also doing, along with AdSense. Now, The top site is only in the 3rd Position, however he has been in the first, and according to SEOQuake, he has:

Page:
PR: 0 Cached: n/a Tweets: 10 Facebook Likes: 88 +1: 0

Domain:
Pages Indexed - 8
Internal Links - 6
Internal Links (nofollow) - 0
Links to Domain - 0
Links to Page - 0
Alexa Rank - 10132162

Now, the strangest part is I know he is getting traffic (keyword is about 40k searches per month, and he's in 3rd position), however SEOQuake reports traffic as 'n/a'

Just lost here as I'm an SEO newb.. Thanks!

    Are those "exact match" searches?

How about the age of domain... it may not have PR, but it can be a 7 years old website. Also, take into account that most tools take time to uncover the backlinks, so if the site had a sudden boost of backlinks it will only show up after a month or more into the regular backlinking checking tools.

As Gabibeowulf said, Domain age also matter a lot.

Judging by the searches per month and Alexa rank, if he's in #3, it's NOT a keyword you want to be targeting.

      Best of all
Yes these are exact searches. What is a SERP? I thought SERP was Search Engine Rank Position or something. How could it be weak? Sorry if this is a stupid question I was up all night working on various sites

I'll check age of domain and report back. Thanks for the suggestion.

Why would I not want to target it?

Okay So I've checked both the Alex Backlinks, and The Sites age.

Backlinks: Good Call Mike, Alexa found 147 Backlinks. Should I replicate his back links now over about a week or so? Thanks again.

Age: Alexa couldn't find the age, google doesn't have it cached, none of the age checkers found it, seaquake didn't find it's age, and wayback machine didn't have it archived. Does this mean it's new-ish?

    Thanks guys!

EDIT: Tons of these back links are in different languages, and are just blog comments. Am I still able to use normal back link services? Right now I'm using SocialMonkee as recommended by a WSO, submitting 25 Social links per site, and I've submitted my RSS feed to all the submitters. That's all i've done for SEO. Any help is appreciated, and I'd be happy to tip you if you could help me get ranked

    Thanks again.
