Amazon Affiliate commision and google Adsense CPC

Hi,
I have been told Not to try and promote cheap products with Amazon because the commision is so low , like 4% to start. I can see how this would be correct if promoting products that cost only £10 for example.
I also see that for my keywords the Google Adsence shows they are worth about £0.40 at most which isnt great.
But the problem is that if im to creat a niche website with the means to monetize through Amazon and Adsence. I really can only find decent keywords and actual "potential" with such low cost items and low value CPC..
So is it not even worth trying to create a site promoting low cost items and low value ads?
All the valuable ads and items seem in high competition and highly saturated. "which s not niche at all"
