Hi, Most recently I have started a link building campaign for my website. Im writing quality articles mostly 500 word articles and then submitting in web 2.0 sites like blogger, wordpress, weebly etc. Unfortunately cant see any good progress! Google not counting web 2.0 backlinks post Penguin?

They still count, although a majority of web 2.0 sites (like squidoo) now use nofollow tags, so your links won't really count for much.

Squidoo backlinks are NOT nofollow. Unless you don't follow the rules.
But then, maybe that's people's trouble...

The amount of real, honest to goodness web 2.0 that
matters, can now be counted on one hand. Maybe, and
it's a stretch, on two hands. I would have a hard time
      counting past 6-7.

Squidoo is my #1 backlinker at the moment. But I've been
a member for a long time, lens of the day winner, over
100 lenses, high rated, etc. Squidoo's internal linking
means I can indeed rank a lens, very little backlinking.
But I build lenses for links and traffic funneling.

      It works like a champ.

Toss in blogspot, which, strangely enough, is pulling
its weight with adsense. My adsense is now 50-50
between the blogspots and the dot coms they
prop up. Blogspot is one friggin amazing program.

Squidoo, blogspot, twitter,....holy cow. If people only knew.

that's just simply not true....what makes you even say that?
Right now I'm looking at a dofollow link to my site on a squidoo lens...

You just have to find websites that most people are not using....

Web 2.0 sites still work as long as you don't use them exclusively.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks 500 words is the key and what Google considers "quality".

Of course Web 2.0 links work, just as well as other back links.

Here's what you need to consider to find yourself good backlinks:
    1) Relevancy - How relevant to your site is this website?
    2) Authority - Is this a high quality website that's been established for a while?
    3) Link Count - How many sites does this website link to? Is it a link farm?
    4) Anchor Text - Is the anchor text a keyword that you would hope to be found for?
    5) Quality - Does the website have high quality content and not spun/unreadable garbage that would give it a high bounce rate?

I know a lot of people will try to swear by spinning or duplicating articles and sending them out to various directories, but that's just my 2c.

Its a horrible campaign!! Those pr n/a web 2.0s wont do any good for your website. you should start building backlinks on those web 2.0's like a tiered link building strategy, get some PR on those web 2.0's and then only you'll see some improvements. and dont just focus on creating web 2.0's, there are lots of other ways to get high quality backlinks.

if OP is relying on just web 2.0 sites then he aint gonna rank for anything but his own name. i doubt that too. the reason is- those newly created web 2.0's are too weak to get a site into the first position. you need to get some pr on those web 2.0's to see improvements. and getting links from only web 2.0's would somehow look unnatural. OP should bring diversity on his link profile. get some links from social bookmarking, guest blogging, blog commenting(not spamming tho), high pr contextual links and others just to make it look natural.

  • Only Web2 is not real strong for backlink, you should mix some other services like: blog post, forum posting, blog comment. Mixing them will make backlink natural and not spam, that will better for backlink and index

Yes, but it sounds like your not backlinking those Web 2.0's, that's something you need to be doing if you want them to work. On their own they aren't worth much.

Try to improve the quality of Web2 Properties by using these tips,

    1. Use high Quality Unique content (Highly spun is ok)
    2. Add Images, Video Randomly (Don't put same video and image in every properties)
    3. Give a link to authority site related to niche (Eg: Wikipedia, about etc)
    4. Try to get all these web 2 properties indexed in Google.
    5. Make more backlinks to web 2.0 properties by using social bookmarking, blog comments

What made you think that web 2.0 sites are once problem here? I mean, there are a lot of reasons on why you don't get any good result from it. First, maybe your site is still new try to be patient. Secondly, maybe your keyword is too competitive or sort of. Try to check the competition on your targeted keyword. Third, what about your traffic? Is it getting low? Maybe you were hit by the Google Update.

Web2.0's are a great way to funnel juice from high PR domains when you have limited resources.

Lol while I'm saying that I actually disagree with myself as those stupid web2.0s always have plenty of internal links that eat up the juice.

As well as they are natural - they do count. Of course it depends how you build them (what is their quality and link juice).

I usually use web 2.0s for killing multiple birds by one stone! First of all I am using these to funnel traffic, then funneling link juice, then ranking websites and also there are some more benefits that very few backlinkers know. However my keyword is a local keyword and not really very competitive. I usually see results after building 20-30 web 2.0 backlinks for this kind of competition. But this time no ranking change! My site is very new just 5 months old. No backlinking done yet. So no question possible regarding google penalty but still not even any google dance! Situation confusing me!

Web2.0 is a main part for Search Engine Marketing. BUT here also have important factor about web2.0 property. Don`t use copy past article for your web 2.0 property. And also doing natural for your website. Don`t use only few web2.0 property with only your website link build. Should to build different website ..AS LIKE AS EXAMPLE: Your keyword is SEO EXPERT. But when you use build link then you should to use other website link as well. Thanks

I bet you can suck a lot of link juice by commenting on other people lenses and funnel it to you page and thus to your site that way. Just harvest a list of high PR squidoo lenses and you should be off in no time.

Previously it also worked with Youtube but they put a stop to that by making the last link to your website nofollow. Tumblr also used to work for that but they made the internal reblogging and liking nofollow as far as I know.

Ok so here's my question (totally not trying to hi-jack the thread sorry if it appears that way) But to keep on the Web 2.0 property trail...so how exactly does that work? I go and setup an account on lets say Tumblr and then just post a unique article that points back to the money site? I mean is that all there is to a tier 1 web 2.0 "property"? Hope this adds to this thread and is not seen as a distraction, but this is a huge donut in my understanding of SEO lol...thanks in advance

Build backlinks to your Quality backlinks. By quality I mean Readable well written content + 3+ Domain PR + 5 or 10 OBLs at the most + indexed in Google + dofollow. And don't concentrate on Web 2.0 only, go for all the link sources on the web, there are plenty of them out there. And don't forget to vary your Anchor text a LOT to avoid any slaps by Penguin or any upcoming G animals. ( 1/3 your target Anchor ..1/3 LSI related keywords...1/3 General Anchors like click here , read more etc ).

Yes, Web 2.0 still works! The only problem with your technique I think is that you only submit 1 x 500 words articles to different web 2.0 sites. If you want Google to count your links and make this link authoritative make sure that create different articles for each web 2.0. In that way, your web 2.0 will become authority in the future as well getting links from it! I also suggest that you make tier 2 links for each web 2.0 properties to make it strong and authoritative!
