A few important questions I need to know...

Hello All

I have a few questions hopefully some of the experts here can help answer here.

1.) When building quality backlinks, how important is the content of the backlink in relation to the product you are promoting?! For example, if my website is selling phone accessories, should I target only directories related to the communications industry?

2.) How important are inbound links on a webpage? I am confused by this issue. I have seen many sites which have plenty of inbound links with anchor text on their homepages and on their blogs. However, I have also seen top-ranked websites which appear to have no inbound anchor text on their sites.

3.) How important are the H1, H2 and H3 tags on your homepage? Is it ok to include all your keywords together or not? For example, a website has the H1 title as 'Mobile Phones, Phone Accessories and Telecommunications'. All 3 words are used together in their title. Is this okay?

I appreciate all informative responses.

    1. You shouldn't only target those however you will get the most bang for your buck from them especially if they are liked by google and well established.

    2. Perhaps I am not understanding.. inbound or outbound links? Sounds to me you are describing something else...

    3. Very important but also important is not to look like you are keyword stuffing either.

Any chance you can tell us why we shouldn't just target relevant pages? Because I can't think of a single reason

Nope because that is exactly what I do myself, I run a very large website that covers a few different topics (and many different keywords). I am always building links to the to internal pages because that is where the content is.

        I think he's saying you shouldn't target those 100%
because most of the the time it's impossible.
Plus, who's to know relevancy except google?

People put sig links here because the are golden,
and yet have zero relevancy. The authority of the
        WF counts for something.

I think he's talking internal links, I hope. Because
nobody should have outbound links in the real world.

The heading tags are important, but not the end all.
Just watch what you put in h1 and don't bold words
        to muddle things up.

        I would never put:
"Mobile Phones, Phone Accessories and Telecommunications"
in an h1 tag. Maybe the title, but I would not muddle up
        the h1 tag.

I am can only guess what you want on one page, but I
am guessing that an h1 with "mobile phone accessories"
        is what you are after.

Adding telecom is muddling. Having phone twice is
        muddling.

Sorry - I meant internal backlinks. - so your anchor text on homepage links to another page on your website. I've heard this is an important part on on-page SEO. However many top-ranks sites I see no not have these.

Some clarify here would be good.

Really depends on your goal and point of view in my opinion How you do this no matter what you pick won't be the end of the world or lead to incredible results. My goal is to make internal links better for the user so they are more incline to visit more pages, they visit more pages higher odds of a click. Smaller sites don't need this as much, so they are more prone to make their internal links directed at keywords. Does it help.. beats me I don't run a small site.

  • I would avoid putting all of your keywords in the title.
Spread them out over your page.
Bold them, italicize them link them to other content on your site.
I would suggest adding user accessibility options as well.
