Guest Posting and exchanging links penalty

Hey guys,

I accept guest posts on one of my websites. I have received a few requests to write from some related-niche websites that are PR2-3. Would it be a good idea to let them write an article for my website with two backlinks to their website AND ask them to put 2 backlinks BACK to me, one pointing to the blog post and one to my homepage url?

I've read about google not liking "Exchanging of links", would this apply to my scenario above? Thanks

To conclude: Apparently it's not recommended to exchange links from what i've read..

Guest posting is good if you are doing it with relevant blogs. But link exchange and paid links are not helpful and they can hurt you later on.So you can use post writer without exchanging links with his blog.

It is reciprocal links that are not reccomended. How about getting a couple of links to another site as the return favour?

Bingo. Nothing wrong with doing a three way link like that

I have a blog where I get people wanting to guest post. They pay me back with a link back to my blog. If I get them instead to only put a link to their product on amazon instead of their website would that work?

So the end result would be:

my site has their article with a backlink to an amazon page, their website has a backlink to the article on my site + another one to my homepage url? But never any backlinks back to them (only in text form, i.e. no hyperlink - for more visit them on thisperson.com.)

It is said that reciprocal linking is baaaaad.... But have you ever tried it? Have you actually exchanged links with 200-300 sites that are related to your site and made sense to make an exchange?

Well .. I have. I have around 7 sites that only used this strategy for backlinking. They all have under 100k alexa rank, 90% google traffic.

Sometimes, mixing things up can lead to undesirable consequences. Basically, guest posts should allow a link back to the content creator and should not require reciprocation.

The link exchange is the best strategy because the links will stay there for years and if you rank you don't need to redo evrymonth like other services sold here on WF.

Links from related websites or related to the location whre you want to rank are the best choice

Well what if your exchanging links with websites similar to your niche. I feel like that wouldn't hurt your ranking unless you had hundreds of links to other sites from yours.

  • Never do Link exchanges because they are illegal within Google!!

The scheme you're suggesting is not quite guest blogging. Guest blogging is not link exchange, and bloggers who view it this way simply don't see the big picture and miss out on opportunities that could bring them far more benefits than a couple of PR 2-3 links.

Guest blogging is about inviting people write on your website:
      - to provide valuable content to your readers
      - give you a writing break
      - reach out to new audience, connect to other people in your niche

It's quite natural that a contributor would publish a guest post on your site and then share it to their social media contacts.

Many guest bloggers also publish a version of their guest article on their own website in a form of a short announcement, e.g.

Hi, X has just published my first guest post. It's about
      1)...
      2)...
      3)...

I've made a presentation/video to sum up the main point of my guest article at X's awesome blog, check it out. Jump over here to read the full version.

X, thank you for the opportunity.

That's what A-rate guest bloggers sometimes do. But people don't ask for that, it just comes naturally.

It's also ok if they don't do anything of the kind. Leo Widrich of Buffer has several guest posts out a day I guess, and he simply doesn't have the opportunity to announce each and every guest post of his on the corporate blog - he does that through social media.

Note: Link-Assistant.Com are huge fans of contributors who get guest blogging right. Check out our guidelines and drop us a line!

As a matter of fact, there are alternatives to guest posting

I'm not saying that you should totally stop it but we need to keep in mind that it's not the only method that works now. Plus if we overuse it, Google will change the status-quo (as it always does).
