How many of you are doing IM just for the money?

Out of curiosity, how many of you are genuinely interested with the IM business, and finding things out/working things out is actually interesting to you?

Reading through these forums, it seems like the only reason most people are doing IM is because they want some extra cash. I'm not going to lie, that was what got me into it as well but after a while I found myself actually trying to perfect my sites, get things right and test things out, not just because of profits but also because of the knowledge.

No I just build crappy sites cause I love to pollute the internet!

Anyway don't fool yourself, you can like to figure out things to make money more effectively so it all comes down to the same thing in the end. You're in it for the money, if you like to figure out things go fill in cross word puzzles or something.

You see, I don't think someone could look into something so much and not be interested in it at least a bit. I was talking to someone the other day that was retired and really didn't need the money but did IM as a hobby.

Right now, I don't NEED the money, but even though I'm probably earning a lower rate from IM than my job, or if I got an extra part time job instead of IM, but I still do it.

I don't believe for one minute you and some of the other seniors in here are in it just for the money Dennis...

Maybe you're right though and I've just tricked my brain into thinking I enjoy it

I agree best with what Joshua says, IM is a nice thing to do, but if I didn't need the money I would have found another hobby. The puzzling/figuring things out part is nice, but the actually site building and link building is insane boring. That's why SEO is nice, the landscape keeps changing.

Main reason why I went into passive income streams is cause of the freedom, or in other words being able to fill in the time like I want. And well, freedom costs money, simple as that and passive is nice but you must have something to do or it gets pretty boring.

So it's the perfect mix of hobby/freedom and extra money if you do it good.

Ha ha, that's a good one... "if you like to figure out things go fill in cross word puzzles or something."

Just looked at the poll, and fully 2/3 (66.67%) of all respondents admit that they do IM "just for the money." I'm in that 66.67%. I certainly wouldn't be doing this for purely altruistic reasons, or because I want to figure something out. If I wanted to do that, I would learn a new language, or maybe volunteer my time to a local charity or to my church.

Well it's something that you only start playing when you are really boring yourself to death, I was without internet for a few weeks back then

Same like reading a book, maybe when I'm in the train or something lol.

              True that!

I don't usually take time off from my "moneymaking IM tasks" but next week I'll be going on vacation with my family and I'll have lots of time on my hands. Think I'll read some books or take up Sudoku or something...

Don't get me wrong.. I consider this a game and the cash is how you keep score, the enjoyment though sitting at the top position of a keyword and watching the little people below you.

Strangely that is kind of close, this is a really incredible game better then I have played in a long time.

I'm in it for the freedom as much as the money. I also enjoy learning the process of building my business but I wouldn't enjoy it or even do it if there wasn't money to be earned.

I make money while doing sites I love, am very interested in,
and take the time to nurture them.

If all people took this approach, they would be way more
      successful.

Now, would I do these sites if I was not making money?
Honestly, only two would I keep.

Yes I see it as a game too, so I'm interested in getting the highest score I can and improve myself at the game. But on the other hand earning money online is a necessity since I'm not rich enough to allow myself to do nothing and most of all I don't want to have to work again for someone else. So that's the motivation, but I enjoy the game a lot otherwise there are other things to earn money offline.

I'm now convinced I'm only in it for the money lol, the first thought that went in my head when you said go do a crossword was:

"but doing crosswords doesn't make me money". I do like to work things out but your right, I probably would be doing something else if there wasn't money involved.

I do IM because I love the niche(s) I work in. If I didn't love the topics I work with on a daily basis, then I would't enjoy what I do.

I love the networking and socializing aspect of IMing. I get to meet lots of great people that share the same interests that I'm into. I met lots of great people that I now call my friends.
