Very open ended question. Based on what you shared about your knowledge, experience, and skill level, my best advice:

    Traffic + Conversions = Money

      Thank Tony,
You maybe right, maybe I am being too general. That must be because I don't know what I'm doing!

Should I start by writing 100 ads? or do I start by buying 100 dollars worth of ads? or do I do both?

I am sure that their are a lot of big mistakes to be made ( and a lot of money to be given to Google ) and 'm hoping to avoid 90% of those mistakes by asking questions and doing research.

        Hey there oneano!

I have been dabbling with Google Adwords for about a year, on and off... And just recently as of the beginning of February 2009, I began investing some of my own money into it, but luckily getting to make some money back to cover my investments and making a small profit, but my advice to you would be to search around for Google Adwords Coupons of like $50, $100 or so... I believe if you do a google search for "Adwords Coupons", you might get some results... I had about 3x €50 in the last year, used them all up testing, learning and simply experimenting with Adwords, but in February 2009, I finally made about $125 in recurring sales out of the last €35 left on my last coupon... :-)

So yeah, I would use that method as first until you get very aquainted with Adwords... since then, I have practically spent about another €100 on Adwords and haven´t made much profit from it... I guess I got too excited and just started doing the "Newbie" mistakes...

Well, I then decided to buy me a book from "Perry Marshall and Bryan Todd" called "The Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords" and I must say that I am now slowly beginning to feel like a "Little Master" of Google Adwords.

The Book is magnificent, even though I am only on page 41, but the fact is that from what I have learned, I have also applied, bettered it and I am beginning to see some very positive results in my campaigns... even had to go back and change everything I had done before.

If you should have any further questions, please dont hesitate to ask, ok? eventhough I would probably have more questions than you about Adwords...

start out very targeted and only use exact [] and phrase "" matching, at first.

Do good keyword research, avoid too broad terms. Set yourself in the mind of a user on the internet. "weight loss" could be used for a lot...but is it really a keyword for potential BUYERS? <--- example

Keep adgroups VERY tight, use only very few (maybe 2-3) keywords per adgroup..HIGHLY relevant to ads wording AND landing page.

Small variations of keyword ----> new adgroup.

Eg. "XXX treatment" and "treatment for XXX" in "XXX treatment adgroup"
But "xxx treatmentS" or "natural xxx treatment" --> both would already deserve each a extra adgroup.

Have negative keywords on campaign level to weed out junk, non buying traffic. Use negative keywords like free, gratis, crack, torrent, keygen, scam etc..etc...

    Agree with GeorgR.

At an overview level I look at it like this

The basics of Winning at AdWords requires mastering in order the following elements:
    1. Get impressions up. e.g to 10,000 impressions / day
    2. Get Click-through-rate up. e.g. Split test AdVariants until a CTR of at least 1%
    3. Improve Quality Score. e.g. Iteratively improve landing page, splinter keyword group, and lift CTR majority of Great Scores (Quality Score = 8+)
    4. Improve Landing page Conversion Rate. e.g. a target initially a 2% conversion and iteratively improve until get a 10% conversion
    5. Reduce your Cost-Per-Click e.g. Make the campaign profitable

One big dilema people starting out have is the trade off of speed versus cost i.e How how fast do I want to get a profitable campaign? versus How much are you prepared to give Google to get there fast?

You need to solve this dilema and early on or you will constantly compromise your results and have stress.

There is of course a lot more to the actual how to but this is a good place to start from.

    All the Best

Start off small and build up from that point on, $100 would best be spent in traffic, write a few ads for a few small keywords (As suggested).

You could start off targeting some zipsubmits on a 2nd tier like 7search , I've had great luck in the past as you can get 5 cent bids , or even penny bids.

working and mastering adwords can be an INCREDIBLE pain in the ****, this even with the existence of tool like google adwords editor.

One big pain in the butt is creating several variations of keywords and making VERY tight adgroups...you need to do this if you want GREAT quality score.

    Example:

We have a product, for, say "yeast infection". The other, related term would be "candida"...so i want to use both keywords.

Now i know there is "remedy", "cure," "treatment", maybe even "get rid of" and WHATEVER other phrases like "how can i get rid of"..."how to cure/treat"

And there is good search volume on

    natural/alternative/herbal remedy/cure/treatment for candida/yeast infection

So..you can literally make HUNDREDS of those varioations....and a whole ***load of adgroups...which each adgroup matching the phrase...

Eg...one adgroup "natural cure for candida"...the next "natural remedy..." "alternative treatment".....etc..etc...you get the idea with all variations.

    LOTS of manual work sometimes.

I also know about tools which are SUPPOSEDLY ease the work (SpeedPPC ??) but i personally never got the hang of speedppc.

    Hey Oneano,

I agree with Tony on here..

Traffic + Conversions = Money. However you need to be sure that the landing/capture pages that you sent your traffic to are fully optimized and will deliver a telling message, otherwise you will just be throwing your money down the drain.

I have tried one PPC before, 7search and the results were mixed. They were not able to drive enough traffic although I had enough credit per day. They endup using less credit each day due to lack of traffic on specific keywords which have more than millions searches a day.

I need to try something else.
