Are these the best possible backlinks? The mother of all backlinks

It seems to me after looking at a lot of posts from Seomoz and various experts within the industry that these are the only tried and true ways to build links for competitive keywords:

- Guest blogging
- Getting webmasters to list your website on their website or resources page
- Setting up web 2.0 properties and creating good content, linking to them using the "traditional" link building methods and then linking to your website from these web 2.0 properties
- Getting some press coverage, each link from press has a lot of link juice
- Writing great content on your blog and getting backlinks naturally

Is that correct? Am I missing anything? Is everything else for a very competitive keyword like fighting an uphill battle with a broken sword?

I'd exclude the Web 2.0 shite. What's the use putting yourself through the grind (make no mistake, it's hard) of doing all that other stuff to get attention and links, if you're gonna fudge it up with fake crap.

Instead buy-out established sites if your budget allows. Do stuff a real business would do, and look beyond links. #RCS

And yes, you're missing alot more. It's all there in the blog.

This is actually a pretty solid list. For the press releases, I'm really liking PRleap at the moment. If you buy into their monthly plans, you can get press release distribution for $50 each and from that you get some nice coverage and backlinks.
