Today,

I received an email from media.net which got me pretty excited. It should be pretty good news for banned adsense publishers. Media.net is partnering with yahoo and launching the new Yahoo! Bing Network Contextual Ads program. Here the link Yahoo! Bing Network Contextual Ads powered by Media.net

finally, adsense has some competition.

The email as quoted below

You may have realized we took down our website last week in preparation for a big launch. We've obviously been working very hard since several months now to prepare a big surprise for you today. You will be hearing the buzz on this announcement over the news very soon, but I wanted you to hear the update from us directly.

Yahoo! (NASDAQ:YHOO) and Media.net today announced a long-term agreement to launch Yahoo! Bing Network Contextual Ads program. This new program aims to provide web publishers with a powerful and effective new solution for earning advertising revenue. Publishers can now use the Media.net platform to create and customize ad units that display relevant text ads from across the Yahoo! Bing Network. We believe that Yahoo! holds a key leadership position in online advertising and teaming up with them allows Media.net to offer web publishers with a solution that generates additional revenue for them and provides customization, control and flexibility that they would like.

Needless to say, we're pretty psyched! Media.net, Yahoo! and our publishers have some incredible opportunities ahead of us. This new program will fully replace our current publisher offerings. As an existing publisher, you will be grandfathered into the new program automatically and are not required to sign up separately. We will be migrating your account to the new program over the next 30 to 60 days, and I'll guide you through the process. At this point, please ensure that you DO NOT request an invite for Yahoo! Bing Network Contextual Ads program.

Here's a quick quote from Yahoo! on this new announcement: "Since its inception, Media.net has invested tremendous resources - people, capital and time - to build what Yahoo! identifies to be a terrific monetization solution for web publishers," said Al Echamendi, Vice President, Business Development, Yahoo!. "During our evaluation process, we recognized Media.net as a technology and innovation leader, with a strong management team that has a significant business track record and industry experience."

This alone will disqualify the average banned Adsense IMer.

So don't all the banned Adsense folks put your party hats on so quickly.

    Hi yukon,

i'm sure they are banned adsense publishers who have quality content/traffic that would qualify.

At least now, google adsense has some competition. Media.net at the moment only accepts us/uk/ca traffic. not sure whether it would change with the yahoo/bing contextual network.

That's why I didn't say "all banned Adsense IMers".

I'm sure some banned publishers have good content, but I'm also sure the majority of banned Adsense publishers have the mindset of only being interested in a quick buck no matter what it takes (junk traffic, click fraud, junk sites, etc...).

Actually the Yahoo/Bing contextual Ads aren't Adsense competition yet. Not until Google starts losing Adwords traffic, that could take months/years If it ever does happen.

Yeah, I am not even viewing this on the same playing field yet and doubt Google does either. Just their payout alone is going to kill off tons of small publisher interest, $500. To me by the time you are making 500+ a month with Adsense you are also realizing you don't need them anymore.

This requires premium content and high traffic. What do they mean by high traffic ? Do they mean 20 million hits every month like Microsoft Ad Center demands?

I think if you have premium content and high traffic, then you dont really need PPC, you can go for affiliate marketing and make tons of money.

The whole thing is laughable when put in the context
of this thread. That is, the silliness:

"Yippee! I can now go and rip off yahoo and bing!"

Fat chance. If you think google's policies are bad, you
aint seen nothing' yet. Any real alternative, and I use
the term loosely, will have the same terms as google.

I guess people are not reading:

All websites are individually approved and screened to ensure adherence to high-quality standards. To qualify, websites must:

      Have high-quality content and traffic

Have a reasonable volume of visitors already using the website

Receive majority of traffic from United States / Canada / United Kingdom

Have English as the primary language

      Abide by our program guidelines:
Sites pertaining to the following shall not be approved:

      .... Free hosted pages
Sites that contain hidden links and text

Deceptive or manipulative content or construction of sites to improve search-engine ranking

(plus a whole host of others like:
Sites with content that has been generated using computer programs and hence may not be comprehendible.
Bulk of the content is user-generated
Man I wish google had those terms!

Good luck folks, you'll need it when you request an invite!

Weren't media.net notoriously difficult to get into even before this change? Now they are going to need to reassure advertisers that they are going to be just as good if not beter than google at protecting them from fraud.

As Yukon and Paul have said apart from a small amount of people banned by google by mistake or unfairly most people won't have a chance of getting in here, especially in it's infancy when it is crucial they give a perfect impression to all advertisers...

US residents only I think and it wasn't hugely popular in comparison to adwords / adsense.

Whinning about Adsense is a #1 sign for inexperience.

Adsense and the Google TOS is a shiny light of easiness & freedom compared to the majority of the other media companies in the PPC area, except you find Adbrite & Co appealing. But i even got banned from Adbrite for a page.

You can say, that alot PPC companies beside Adsense will only let you in when you are pretty big.

So big, that you have a good chance to become in Adsense also a "privileged" publisher with phone support and such (yes, they have that when you rise in the income).

And must i point out that there is still no company on the world which pays more as Adsense?

yahoo & bing are probably the 2nd biggest PPC company behind google so i think their contextual ads program should pay decent.

I've been using media.net for 6 months now and some of my sites earn more from media.net than adsense from testing. Plus, their ad layout is very different from adsense so less ad blindness.

one thing i didn't like about media.net though is that they only accept US/UK/CA traffic. They didn't have 100% fill rate like adsense does.

I use adsense as my main ad earner, but I have been using Media.net for almost a year now on my main money site and although I only have 1 ad block which is not even in the hot spot, it earns me around $500 a month.

I like the fact that their ads appears as big looking keywords, attracting more visitors to click.

I got the email today too and I am actually excited to see what the new changes will bring.

i think the website is still under construction. While browsing some pages i noticed many images and icons are corrupted. The introductory video is also not working on my pc. To stand in competition with Google Adsense the website have to do lots of work on their website.

I don't see all the fascination with AdSense and its clones - there are far better ways out there to monetise your sites.
