I am pretty familiar with SEO. I've created a few websites with basic HTML although I'm planning to switch to WordPress soon.
I have a new site that is about buying and selling antique and vintage items. I do buy and sell antiques. Really happy about being accepted to Ebay partner Network.
My site currently has very few links from other sources. When I did a site years ago (2004) I was very successful (#1 in Google for pretty competitive real estate keyword) with good SEO and the horrible task of manually submitting requests to trade links + submitting to relevant directories. I even paid for some quality links.
Is there any way I can avoid this? I plan to develop other sites and really would like to spend my time not trading links or manually adding to directories.
I don't want to do anything shady like link farms etc. I need quality niche links related to antiques, vintage, collectibles etc.
Is there any way to have this done for a reasonable price with quality or do I just have to do it myself? I will do it if I have to but again I feel my time could be spent in other ways.
Thank you for any help and great forum!

Anyone have any ideas? You can tell me I have to do it myself if you want.
