In the last hour I've watched my most coveted site totally tank.

I think its from these backlinks I recently gave it..

It has nothing to do with the exact match domain algo change..

But man my site is totally screwed.

Anyone else see this now? I am trying to determine if its a true penguin update or something i did on my side.

Could be some of your backlinks were effected by the algo change as well, so while not a direct hit from the update.. an indirect hit by it.

This hit i just took was worse than April 24th.

The links I added were high PR web 2.0 sites from one particular web 2.0 (blogger, wordpress, etc.). I probably added about 30. They were all with PR and contextual and 1 OBL. I thought Google would love this.

SO I think I added about 50 domains with PR.. and they were I guess probably on the same IP. That was maybe the mistake.

    Son of a bitch.

    About a -140 everything.

2 of my sites with 70+ pages each of American college student written content were just both killed. Was there anything else to this update as this makes no sense to me. Also, all of my old EMDs with foreign written content are still ranking well......

I wonder if they did some sort of update and sneaked it in with the other update.

Yes and my EMD sites are ranking BETTER.

There has to be this is ridiculous. My 2 sites that got hit aren't even EMDs and they have great content yet my trash, throwaway sites still stand.

I think you are right. I lost ALL my rankings for a non-EMD site. The domain name is something like, ChooseYourOven dot com. The inner pages would target the product like this: Brand ProductXXX Review. Lost all pages (little over 60).

I'm not sure what is going on but I've been making record breaking adsense income lately. It weird because one of my blogs was doing okay, now it is doing exceptional. Of course I build high PR backlinks to it. Maybe that is helping.

I think google is making some changes.

Very sorry to hear that Oilman

It took me to get hit to realize that less is more now. The google focus I had an unhealthy focus and reliance upon is no longer...

Cheap or auto backlinks are not worth the risk. In fact i know of some marketers who are doing better than they ever have done - by not doing anything at all!

Imo Google is just warming up....trying to beat it or go one step ahead in my view is a dangerous and flawed second guess type approach.

    Same here,
-My we site name was brandable, not even related to my keywords.
-85 pages of unique, helpfull, American women/mom written content.
    -No blachat was used.

So what, I think google is getting worser and worser on bringing succesfull search result.
Now when I type my keywords only amazon (unrelated products), squidoo (very low quality pages), and some wikipages (100 word articles with 3 or more anchor backlinks) are coming up.

I think blackhat guys know the best, they are happier always.

Remove non-relevant links, add/freshen up your content, then wait a couple weeks and watch your EMD/PMD return to the SERPs. Happens EVERY time.

Everyone it is saying its spammy links that hurt us.

But I added 50 PR3, 1 OBL completely hand-written contextual links to my site.. that were web 2.0. I'd prefer not to mention which type of web 2.0..

But they were the best links I think a person could make. But I think they are the culprit.

So I dont know if link quailty matters as much as everyone preaches it to be. I have spam sites that still rank fine after this. In fact they all rank fine.

I think its more about link velocity or seeing a bunch of High PR links coming in.. and also IP diversity. I dont know anymore though. There are just too many factors nowadays
