Please Give Advice: Can I rank for these keywords?

Hi, I'm thinking of starting a blog in a specific niche(products). Blog will cover a specific product category. It is not a broad category. And I'm going to use amazon affiliate links on my blog.

OK, now coming to the question. I've done some quick keyword research for that product category and results are quite encouraging(in terms of number of searches). Now I am concerned about the competition. I have read a lottt on internet about checking competition for a specific keyword. The best method(as most of the people say on different sites and forums) to check competition is to use Google. So, I used google to check the competition. I analyzed the top few pages on google for all my potential keywords. Now here comes the real confusion. The websites/pages on the top of google for most of my keywords have a highest PR of 3. I mean I checked for all my keywords and I noted the PR of the top most page, and it is 3 or lower for most of the keywords. It seems like it's reachable, is it?

And the most important part that I am concerned about is that some of my keywords have amazon page on top or other big stores like Walmart, Alibaba and other big names. Although the PR of any of those pages is not higher than 3(max.) but the the overall domain PR is quite higher, quite obvious for those big names. So, I wanted to know that is it possible to rank on top of google in the circumstances I described above? OK, let me make it more clear. I know, of course, it is possible, But how difficult it would be? Please give advice based on your experience that should I give it a try? Also how would you "call" the competition I described above: tough, average, easy or very easy?

Helpful replies from everyone would be much appreciated!

You can rank for any keyword, as long as your SEO strategy is sound.

Thanks for your reply! Could you please elaborate a bit more on a "sound SEO strategy"? I would really appreciate if you can suggest something good for the situation (about competition) I described above.

The pagerank of a web has nothing to do with competence. It is better to look at the númber of backlinks in google and the pagerank of the main backlinks of the first page results.

Maybe you should think about using a competition tool like market samurai or Traffic Travis.
If you don't want to pay you could use also google keyword tool.

Thanks a lot for your helpful reply!

OK, I agree that PR has nothing or very little to do with competence. In fact, it can give a broad idea of the quality of backlinks a site is having.

Let me make it more clear for you, in a hope to get even better help from you. Other than amazon and other bigger stores' pages, I've identified one main competitor. It has 3 PR, less than 1K unique href links, and domain age field is empty. I've SEO Book toolbar installed for all this data. The most of the links to the site are PR 1.

I am not looking to use any paid tools at the moment. I'm using google keyword tool to search my keywords but, I think, there is no way to check the competition of a keyword using google keyword tool, is there any? The competition mentioned next to each keyword in google's tool shows the Adward CPC Campaign competition, this is what I read over the internet, is that right?

Thanks for your reply! Yes, amazon and walmart are great established websites, but some pages on top from these websites have 0 PR and they are search pages. So what you think about competing those pages?

rana1863...forget about keyword competition and SEO. The best IM strategy is to get traffic from 1,000's of keywords and not from 2 or 3. Create a blog with the best useful information you can write/buy. Add content as frequently as possible and have patience. The bigger the blog becomes the more traffic you will get. That is all you should focus on...addding good content. Every thing else will come in time.

I have a 6 month old blog with 420 posts and I get traffic from 3,200 keywords. I write posts everyday. Looking towards the future when I rank higher for these keywords...if I get 1 visitor from each keyword per day, I'll get 3,200 visitors per day. That will be nice indeed.

What you people think, if the competitor has around 1000 backlinks and most of them are PR 1. How difficult it will be to beat them?
