New Google Update - Calm Down Everyone

When Panda and Penguin hit I came in here with a voice of reason and here I am again.

The results ARE NOT going to stay like this.

Last time they did a big update this happened and people eventually recovered, those who didn't deserve to didn't but if you've got a good site that's been hit stop worrying - it will fix.

Just RELAX AND MAKE TEA for now.

Also keep building all your non-EMD sites, they will come back.

Google aren't out to kill your business, they just need to update their algorithm for their users and YES this means your site will get hit while they fluctuate the results through the new algorithm update.

Once again.. HAVE SOME TEA AND WAIT IT OUT.

    You're right, maybe I'm wrong.

There are people who saw all they website going to the toilet today, I don't think they can relax...

But I have to agree with you that the results won't stay like that, it's for sure...

Exactly. EMDs were bound to end, we all knew they would. Just as spun content will be the next target.

The key is to keep building backlinks. After the Penguin / Panda update my advise was to take this opportunity to improve your website onpage and offpage SEO while your competitors grieve and cry. Building quality backlinks and posting quality content is more important than ever right now.

Those who still use spun articles or try to trick Google results with EMDs are doomed. Now is the time to build your brand using social media, videos, press releases, guest blogging and seeking out only high PR contextual links and blogroll spots. My clients are thriving while everyone else is suffering.

BAD grammar (ok if you're not a native English speaker) but, nonetheless, as I wrote in the forum some moments ago:

    "- Googlee is a business - "most" of the internet views worldwide apprehend it to be some sort of democratic enterprise, fostering ""general" communication and interaction (yeah, we've all/heard about the spring in arabia...);

    - eBayy is no longer a site for auctions, but a retail market;

    - We all know the changes that Amazonn has instituted over the years for their affiliates;

    "Particular" thoughts:

    - this simply condenses the behemoths of the internet, marginalizing the smaller entities..."

My keywords and websites actually got a massive boost in rankings.. all my competition just died out and I took the #1 spot. Analytics is already showing huge increases in traffic.

          THANK YOU GOOGLE.

I received this message from my WP theme template guys: "Google has released the new algo updates "Panda 3.5" and "Penguin" that targets sites with sitewide (on every page) links."

Well, I don't know what else does this update include?! But yes, it will take almost a month before our sites get back to their original position...

Until then we can simply sit back and perhaps build more links...

Good sound advice - particularly about the cup of tea

The google algorithm changes are an opportunity and wake up call for us all. Too many businesses (including mine) were too google centric.

We have just found out how flawed that approach was for many people.

    Intrapreneur... Uhh, tea?!?

Come on, man... You know damn well tea won't help in a time of high stress. So here's my advice:

Have a smoke... Or two... Or the whole pack.

Seriously, it works - smoking helps calm you down. I just finished reading a medical study written by a well-respected doctor, published in 1937, that said smoking is one of the best things you can do to calm yourself down.

My friend, Bob Sakimano, always smokes when he's stressed. He says it really helps.

Its pretty shitty waking up to see all of my sites completely off. Sure they were EMD's but they were far from "low quality". I was getting so close to the top of the serps for many keywords ranking many different pages. Now their gonzo.

EMD's didn't even give a massive SEO boost, I was using them purely for the appearance of having the keyword in the domain.

      F*ck.

LOL its crap mate i am exactly the same as you i just choose the domain for appearance i didn`t even try to rank for the name in the domain , And my friend got slapped and his domain was just his full name he was into woodwork ha ha

Truth is i guess google couldn`t care less about the `few` quality domains that get hit as long as it clears the crap out which i guess it will coz theres tons of crappy EMD adsense sites out there so theres gona be a few `casualties of war`

        I cannot really blame google

What with Penguin in April and now this latest Algo update from Google, I am moving my off line business away from being so dependent upon Google. I operate taxi services that in previous years did very well from Google as peeps moved away from Yellow Pages to find and book their cabs online.

Two or three of my best taxi sites have lost significant ranking since April. It is also hard not to avoid an EMD for your local taxi service.

In my opinion static websites are dead for SEO. I am going to migrate my efforts into bespoke designed word press themes and ensure "fresh content" as part of a new blog system of sites.

I no longer respect Google. They are killing small businesses all over the place and hide behind this "quality content for our users" bs. Funny how a site that is doing well in the SERPs is reliant upon Polish forum links [thousands of them] and has limited content on their site which is now above all of my aged sites! I am not bitter really but I am sick of Google and Matt Cutts keep changing the game rules every 6 mths or so.

Hurry up Facebook and get your search engine operational ASAP!!!

Yeah, my "real" software business has been killed by this update. So much for Google trying to remove spam!

Has anyone got any HubPages news? My Hubs appear to have been killed also, but I just wonder if its related to their site going down for a while on Friday.

I think relax and see what happens is a bullshit approach. No offense. Its to passive, its like taking the Google "Build it and they will come approach" which clearly doesnt work in any competitive market.

    Personally....

I would just hustle, this is what i am doing. I have no sites penalized. But i am still hustling.

I am creating every type of site possible.

Single page EMD sites, mini sites, huge authority sites.

I am also creating backlinks from a huge array of sources using varying tactics.

Some sites i am going very aggressive and blackhat, other sites i am going very conservative greyhat (Im not doing any of that whitehat BS, it doesnt work in my competitive niches).

What i am saying is this.

If you build every type of site, which ever way the algo goes, some of your sites will do better, some will do worse.

In investing they call this hedging. In business they call it diversification. Call it what you want.

Eventually my goal is to build large assets that dont rely on Google. I'm not there yet, but im on my way.

But i am not going to "sit around and wait". **** that!

    Love you guys!

Look what I'm saying isn't diversify your tactic etc.

Some very good businesses have been hit again.

It's just an ALGORITHM UPDATE and while its being updated websites WILL feel the pinch whether they're good quality or not.

Relax and stop worrying for now and keep building, your decent sites will come back.

Somehow I believe in Interpeneur approach more than "hustle as mach as you can and see what would stuck". I tried this approach and it did not work for me. I abandon projects in a midway before seeing any results when I do that. Slow an steady. I will go get some tea and would go work on my current projects after that (can make some corrections possibly, but no too drastic) .

I like good tea, by the way.

HARDLY ANYONE WHO BROKE THE RULES. Those who came back were wrongly hit. Those who didn't broke rules and quality guidelines.

      This is what I'm saying..

Sites were hit recently just like in Panda that will recover.

If your site is spam, backlinked into oblivion etc it will never come back.

But if you've got a website that serves a purpose it WILL BE BACK.

Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

So to all that know their site is good then don't panic is what I'm saying because soon you'll find out the real damage.

For now the Google results are still all over the place. Let them settle!

I kind of misread you then, thing is though that everyone thinks their site is good while it's a huge pile of crap. I suggested things to clients so many times and they look at me like I am the one who's crazy, and they just keep doing what they were doing. Most are terribly hit now.

Sure that's a problem of the people it self, most love to live in a fantasy.

I think what probably happened in many cases of EMDs getting slammed is something like this:

Marketer uses SmallBlueBall.com to rank for the ever niche but uber valuable term small blue ball. They put up 50 spun articles about small blue ball and build a huge link pyramid from web 2.0 properties etc. mostly with anchor text "small blue ball".

Old Google sees relevant site about small blue ball on relevant domain with lots of links indicating its relevance and authority.

New Google wonders why the hell there is a full site about "small blue ball" with as many links as much larger actually useful sites might get, all seeming to indicate it's the best "small blue ball" resource. New Google sees it for what it really is and slaps away.

Sure some good quality sites got hit too and as others have said, many of those will likely come back up as Google cleans things up. But I'm guessing many slaps that won't come back are somewhat along those lines. Google's getting smarter at understanding what a manipulated ranking looks like, folks. Does that mean EMD has lost all its power? Ask CreditCards.com - still outranking Visa/Mastercard/AmEx, all credit bureaus, all banks, etc. There are tons more like it that weren't affected.

Good quality EMDs aren't worthless. Size10BrownShoe.com and ones like it are worthless. If you really have to stretch to build a fill site about the term, it's probably a poor EMD.
