Commenting on Blogs is a time loss?

I've been commenting on blogs manually for sometime, and there are a lot of blogs where they don't moderate and your comment never shows.

In others blogs the form don't work and sometimes my comments are blocked.

I must say that my comments are not spam and I allways try to add some value to the post.

The problem is that the comments that get published don't seem to rank or appear in google webmaster tools.

Are the blogs real important to make links or should i change?

Comments take time to reflect in Google webmaster tools like all other links. They are valuable if you are commenting on a blog that manaually approves the comments. This stops your comment having to fight for a drop of link juice with 1000 other links.

It really depends upon what kind of blog commenting you do. If you're doing it in an automated manner, sure a bunch of dofollow comments could help if integrated into your link building strategy in a wise manner. As long as they are on quality blogs and you ration it out with dofollow and nofollow.

If you manually do it, authority blogs within your niche can also help you gain relevance. However, what you'd really be after is developing rapport with that particular blogger and their readers to increase your traffic and branding over time.

I wouldn't engage in comment spam, but generally it can be beneficial if well placed on targeted and high traffic blogs.

I'd say the days of commenting for backlinks are gone, but I'm not an SEO guru.

Blog comments blackinks where and still are a valid strategy but that are 2 way you can do it.

    1. Manual comments... in this case you must find high PR (the actual PR of the page not the domain) and place your comments there. Of course those pages must have low OBL. One thing that is important when you do that that after your comment is approve then you must be sure that it is find and indexed by google.

    2. Mass posting using different software. Usually for this you need to find many autoapprove blogs. Here the OBL does not matter so much what is important is a anchor diversity, link velocity. With those you must let google discover naturally so any effort to index them faster will probably take you a penalty.

So blog commenting is not dead, it all depends how you do it

From my experience, it pays to have some approved blog comment links from relevant blog posts, but it really should be just a small part of your overall link building strategy. Remember, Google is looking for natural growth and likes to see incoming links from a variety of sources. So, guest posting, blog commenting, article submissions, links from video sites like YouTube, social media, bookmarks, forums, etc. are all good to have in your mix of backlinks. I personally try to leave at least 2 blog comments per day, as many as 5 if I have the time and motivation...

Blog commenting is a very good way of getting backlinks but you should not rely so much on it as a sole source of backlinks. There are other methods such as guest posting and form marketing that can also help.

It does get time consuming to manually comment on blogs, I spend a little money each month on our professional link building but in Market Samurai we still rank so far behind our competition that it's the only option that's really open to me. To generate the thousands of backlinks I need to get close to catching up I'd either need to substantially reduce the quantity of the backlinks that I'm buying or massively increase my budget. I'm hoping that if I mainly target blogs with backlinks that register for competitor sites in Alexa that I'll have a better success rate but I guess only time will tell whether it will actually pay off or not.

Thought I'd chime in a little late. There's one thing you should do before commenting on a post. Make sure there's OTHER posts that are somewhat recent. If I find a post that I'd like to comment on, I make sure that the blog has other posts (and maybe even a few approved comments) from within at least the past month.

This ensures that the blog is still being actively updated. It's obviously pretty tough to get comments approved on an abandoned blog.

Hand-blown blog comments are very good for IP diversity. Stay away from anchor text, use a Gravatar, and leave meaningful comments. This really help your backlink profile.

How is blog commenting risky when you're taking the time to leave legitimate comments on quality (moderated) blogs?

Edit: Just read your post on the other thread. Some blogs may be using a "recent comments" plugin, which gets your comment / link shown on every post. This is normal and the links will go away once other people comment.

One thing to seriously think about when building backlinks using blog commenting is that eventually, one day, the blog owner is going to nofollow all of their comment links...I have seen this many times.

You are better off (long term) writing great content and getting it republished...and using that content as a means to generate leads and optins...there really is no better way.

I don't think so. Blog commenting still helps in back linking. You just need to get the right blogs and manually do it.

First of all, whats your motive. You are blog commenting to get backlinks or traffic. Both are different.

Also you are working for traffic. Then you need to find relevant blogs that have huge no. of subscribers like over 50,000 subscribers and who update their blogs frequently. Subscribe to them, and make sure you are the first one to comment.

Many of them don't approve your comments if you use your keyword in the name field, just use your name... nd make a good comment something interesting.

It works and work well if done correctly.

Yeah, I've always found it one of the easiest ways to get a backlink with PR. As long as the blogs are active & you're leaving legitimate comments you should see a pretty decent approval rate. I'd rather spent time generating just a handful of PR1+ backlinks vs. spending the same amount of time generating a few hundred junk backlinks on spammed-to-death pages.
