Member Content and SEO ?

Hey everyone!

I am in the middle of setting up a membership site that has a ton of content, to access the content users would need to register (it's free). It's a Wordpress powered site, so the registration process is very simple.

My query is that since 80% of the content would be for users that are logged in, would any of that be taken into account in SEO terms. Or would Google not find it and only take into account the 20% of the content which doesn't require logging in to see. My worry is that Google might think of the website as smaller than it actually is.

Your thoughts are much anticipated!

If Google can find it then so can outside people too. You could put the content as no index but it still would not be secure.

If its members only content, you don't want it indexed or searchable. Membership programs have ways to set the nofollow noindex in the headers or sometimes they do this by disallowing referral traffic.

If you want your site to be found in the search engines for the phrases in the members only content, you are probably going to have to produce additional content using those keywords or variations so that your site shows up as bigger than just the open content.

Right okay, I am using the S2 member plugin to restrict access to the content.

But ideally, I need to have a lot of non restricted content to benefit in SEO?

I chose entrepreneurship over further education despite being laughed at by my friends and family..

I recently hit the "RESTART" button on my life, read my personal blog to find out how I did it :)

If you want only 20% of the contents to be exposed in non members, why you are worrying about those 80% to be indexed. If those 80% are indexed, there are possibilities that people will see your membership contents without becoming a member of your site.
