Ranking against Amazon, BestBuy and other retailers

I have this KW in mind with lots of searches and targeted traffic. The problem is that the competition for these keywords include known retailers like Amazon, BestBuy etc. Backlinks (BLP), on the other hand, ranges from 0-20 (this looks good to me) but I figured the strength of those retailers will make even manual backlinking worthless.
What are your thoughts about this?
