I have same domain name with .ca and .com extension. (e.g abc.ca and abc.com)

Can i use the same content on both sites without being penalized by google ?

I am confused a little bit because i am told that i shouldn't use the same content on multiple sites, however, i've just noticed that a big company uses the same content on two different sites and it seems it's working very well. Can you please take a look at the following links and share your thoughts with me ?

Electronic Components Distributor | DigiKey Corp. | US Home Page
Electronic Components Distributor | DigiKey Corp. | CA Home Page

Thanks.

matt cutts on duplicate content for local sites

Matt Cutts: Where people get into trouble here is that they fill these pages with the exact same content on each page. “Our handcrafted pizza is lovingly made with the same methods we have been using for more than 50 years …”, and they’ll repeat the same information for 6 or 7 paragraphs, and it’s not necessary. That information would be great on a top-level page somewhere on the site, but repeating it on all those pages does not look good. If users see this on multiple pages on the site they aren’t likely to like it either.

even google has identical content on multiple sites. so don't you think it's weird because they do the opposite of what they say ?

    Company ? Google
    Company ? Google

I think you just have to put the rel="canonical" tag in your website content. That way Google won't have to flag you for duplicate content. After all, it IS still the same site.

Does this mean you can do duplicated content then?

No that's not mean to use for Duplicate Content , that's Mean one can use for same content on same domains pages but with in unique method to follow Discussed in Quoted . Other Option is Just Make redirection for single web page .

    Yeah, that's really dumb.

Just redirect your link.. whatever one you want, to the other one. With a 301 redirect.
