Choose the best relevant directories and submit to those. Do not submit hundreds of directories as it is not going to use any more.

You can submit your website to directories but make sure that you are using only quality directories, I suggest to use only 20/30 directories. After that you can submit your website to local directories, it can help a lot in getting backlinks and traffic.

It is true what everyone is saying about the quality over quantity, but a very important point was brought up by raisuddintch1... make sure you keep up consistent link building efforts (including the directories).

There is no better way to raise red flags than building at an abnormal pace.

Submitting your website to directories is still helpful
but this time you have to be more apt and use only
high pr directories instead of worthless sites
that is likely to hurt your ranking at the long run.

It is not necessarly to submit your website to directories, but if you are still going to do it make sure that directory is not a low quality directory.

I would let a few months old site and try some new very good articles on private blogs to start with

Directory submission i will build in month 3-4 . And do not worry to submit 100-300 directories at once cause they will approve your site in 1-6 months not in the same time all..

      Cheers

Did you submit your website into Dmoz and Yahoo? Or else, if you don't want to spend any money then, you should submit it in your niche related and quality directories . It helps you to get better SERP..!

I normally submit a new site to a few directories to build a little foundation. Nothing too crazy. Just make sure the directories have a little substance and aren't just saturated with spam.

Link directories are only good for getting backlinks but they never generates any traffic at all.
I still submit my website to directories now and then but I write each description separately to make it completely unique. This gives much better SEO boost than spun of duplicate descriptions.
Make sure you submit your links on PR3+ directories because lower rank ones are risky bet.

Yahoo directory gave me some good link juice and boosted my SERP’s, but it won’t bring traffic directly from the Yahoo directory, and it won’t make you rank better in Yahoo search.

TIP: When choosing a directory, look at the page your link will reside on first. If the page PR is N/A, don’t bother submitting to it. Submit to directories where PR resides on that page your link will be on, if possible.

Web directory submission still works as a backlinking strategy, especially if those directories have a high PR and are related to your niche. However, you should also get other types of backlinks to your site: eg: backlinks from relevant web 2.0 blogs, articles, wikis, etc. It is good to get backlinks from directories too, but just don't make them your only focus for off page seo.
