Backlinks in Wordpress-Hosted Blog

Good Morning Warriors!

After conducting a backlink analysis for one of my clients using SEOmoz, Cognitive, Majestic, and Spyglass, I found that none of my backlinks from my Wordpress-hosted blogs (.wordpress.com) are showing up.

Why is this? I've done a site: and the blog is being indexed by Google but the backlinks are no where to be found. Does Google not take into consideration backlinks on a .wordpress.com blog?

FYI - A lot of my blog posts/backlinks were created in March/April earlier this year, so they should be showing up in my backlink analysis.

Any insight on this? Are .wordpress.com blogs a waste of time for content creation/backlink building even though they're updated on a weekly basis with quality, informative content that isn't spammy?

Would I be better off registering a .com domain for blogging/backlink building? This is SOO frustrating.

Some insight on .wordpress.com domains and using them for content/backlink creation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Warriors!

This is a rather vague response, and doesn't really answer my question. I do appreciate your reply though.

I understand that not all backlinks show up. However, I track and record everything for my campaigns, and most of my backlinks in my other blogs (multiply, blog, insane journal, live journal, weebly etc.) all show up.

True, not even the best tools (including SEOMoz,SEO Spyglass, Ahrefs or Webmaster tools for that matter) show ALL the links. It's unfortunate, but that's just how it is. And no this has nothing to to with a backlink being indexed or not.

Thanks for the reply. So it's not a waste of time to create content on a .wordpress.com blog?

Would it be more beneficial to register a domain and create content there? I just don't want to waste time creating content/backlinks and not have them positively impact my rankings.

        Thanks again for the response.

Wordpress.com websites are fine, especially for backlink creation. You need to link to them too. Usually you use the 'tiered backlinking' approach. I see these Wordpress.com links show up when I build them that way for clients.

Thanks for the input fellow Warriors. Sometimes I question my tactics and strategies, which is probably a good thing considering Google's algorithm is always changing. It's just part of the job

Backlink checkers do not have the resources to index the entire internet. For a more complete picture use, google webmaster tools.
