I would take a "wild" guess and say ANY search engine wants quality, relevant search results. What you do to rank in Google should be what it takes to rank in other search engines, i.e. keyword in title, LSI and keyword in content, social interaction, lots of readable and engaging content, low bounce rate, etc.

It only makes sense that they want to bring the searchers results they are looking for.

Yes - but I agree that it doesnt seem to be right as we do well on Google but really bad on Bing and we have rich, authentic content.

I have always found ranking on Bing/Yahoo a after product on working toward ranking on G. So I would say do the same thing your doing and only focus on the movements in bing/yahoo searches. And if you rank on G then that's an added bonus

I have found yahoo and bing to be very easy to rank. The exact things google will peanilise you for will rank you on the other two. I several search queries that we get at least 5 of the top 10 on yahoo and bing. Simply over optomise the pages, get direct hit page names and emd's where possible.

  • I agree with George. It is much easier to rank on Yahoo and Bing. It just takes a little longer. Google spiders content very quickly the others take a few more weeks. Their spam filters are not as sophisticated as Google's so many spam sites can rank higher.

EMDs, blog networks, etc. everything works with Bing/Yahoo.

The one thing you need to do is to use Bing's keyword tool to see the actual search volumes. Just like you'd do with Google; once you find a few that has good volume, you can receive as much traffic as you'd receive from Google.

In your opinion, is Bing worth the trouble? I get less than 2% of the traffic from Bing. Is it because I have not optimized for Bing? Though whenever I check my keywords I do much better in Yahoo and Bing when compared to Google but over 95% of traffic still hails from the big G.

The thing is that the search volumes in Bing are very different than in Google. There are lots of keywords that have very good search volume in Bing; the problem is in finding them.

Hence, finding keywords using Google data and then optimizing for Bing is no use.

I suggest you use Bing's keyword tool (now called Search intelligence or something I believe). It's similar to GAKT and can give you directions on which keywords to optimize for if you are going to target Bing.

People say that ranking for bing is the same as Google. If it were the same we would have similar rankings in the 3 search engines. clearly this is not the case..

Yes Bing has far less trafffic than google. But they say that bing traffic is mainly buyer traffic while google is mainly info seeking traffic. But either way it's still great quality.

Actually ranking on search engine is almost same for all of the situation. Like this, for BING -
    Bing prefers editorial links
Exact-match domain names count more in Bing
More content on the page and on the site
Let's check what BING says for itself -

Bing Optimising Website Content for Higher Rankings on Bing - The Bing UK blog - Site Blogs - Bing Community

So be sure to get those editorial links from articles and blog posts, get an exact match domain name if you're starting a new site, and have plenty of subject-related content on the site.

Personally I find it much easier to rank well on Yahoo and Bing using all the standard stuff. I think Google weighs backlinks more, making it more challenging to rank well.

Every Search Engine have it's own algorithm for ranking. Google check the quality of your website's contents and back links but in yahoo or bing it depends on the website traffic.I prefer you to read yahoo or bing algorithm more details.

I ranked my sites in yahoo and bing using forum posts. I did this with service ''autoseobacklinks''. It is risky to blast your money site directly with forum posts because of google Penguin but it work for yahoo and bing.

No, there is difference..if the rule were same, then your site should be penalized in Yahoo too, but you don't get any penalization from Yahoo.

It sounds easier with some of the comments above but I haven't figured the secret out yet. One of my keywords has been rank no 1 on Google for ages yet is no 71 on Yahoo. It is little wonder my search engine traffic is from Google.

As you search sites/data for link building purpose in Google and you get Google ranking, because these sites/data (using for link building) has higher visibility in Google search engine.

Same way, you can do for Yahoo optimization, you need to search sites, blogs, directories in Yahoo search engine to get Yahoo ranking.

Bing works more with old school SEO.

High authority links, anchor text, onpage optimization. You can still get penalized, but they have dialed it way down compared to Google. In-fact, it really is quite easy to get ranked in bing I have found that age is more of a factor in bing as well, so its less responsive to manipulation initially.

To be honest Yahoo and Bing have been a godsend lately, with several of my sites still being penalized, i am still getting a decent trickle of worthwhile traffic from other search engines.
