Google is giving Big Brands nearly ALL page 1 slots

So I've searched in Google for "Confetti Shredder" and on my search results not only is Amazon no 1 but slots 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. WTF???

I've noticed the same thing with many more search terms where Google has given virtually the whole of page 1 to a big brand domain.

Apart from the obvious that the small guy doesn't get a look-in for ranking for these keywords any more - but surely USERS searching for keywords do not want to have virtually the whole of page 1 dominated by one brand? Doesnt offer them a lot of choice (apart from clicking on Google's own ads of course).

I think Google really have lost the plot when it comes to SERPs these days.

I get completely different results to yours. Amazon is #1 but the rest of the results are all different.

And that was with and without quotes.

What I did was go to google.com as opposed to google.co.uk, namely this url:

      https://www.google.com/

and type Confetti Shredder with no quotes. I get Amazon.co.uk results and not amazon.com (as I'm in the UK). I guess people in other parts of the world will get different results.

Oh, and I'm signed out of Google too.

I tried google.com as well using google global plugin for firefox but still get completely different results. Amazon.com is #6 with some site called factory-express.com #1. That's what I get anyway.

It's funny how no one even seems to have checked whether they get the same results or not, just take what you have said as fact.

Consumers/Searchers favor brands; Google favors giving consumers what they want.

Think about it. Most affiliate sites are promoting brands. Now why should Google give priority to an affiliate site if they are going to end up at the brand anyway. That's the way it's going.

You need to start thinking like a brand and give the visitor a better user experiance than the brand can offer. if you want to be up there with them.

Wow, that's odd. Sites that people like and link to are getting better rankings than other sites.
How could that happen? They all must be paying off google. There is no other explanation than a conspiracy against the small sites that no one knows of.

How many results have you set it to return? If it's 100 it was often return lots of results from the top few sites. It's it's 10 then it will return varied results including "other" domains.

Thanks Andy, you hit the nail on the head.

My settings were set to 100 results and this is why I'm getting odd results. I set it back to 10 results per page and its giving a mixture of domains now.

Really weird why its doing that and never noticed that before.
