If you are still on the first page then you aren't penalized, which is a positive thing. And there's a high chance that you were hit by panda more than the EMD update. Homever you should get up with few strong backlinks , but being an EMD I suggest you to keep your main kw anchor % lower than before.

I've only just started working on my site that was hit slightly last weekend when the update occured. Saturday was when I went back to the site and added some good backlinks I had spent time during the week off finding and getting ready - and looking at my traffic and other stats yesterday and this morning, it has shown a little bit of an increase and jump as to what I was recieving at similar times on Friday and throughout the week last week.

I'm sure it can only help and do good now as the update has been completed and the dust has settled.

    Could be a hicup.

    I would analyze the competition.

I am not sure if the dust has settled yet. You could focus on secondary keywords. It wouldn't hurt.

If you are still on the first page, you weren't hit. I wouldn't change my SEO tactics at the moment if I were you.

They also updated Penguin and Panda. Panda is aimed at low-quality content and Penguin is aimed at low-quality links.

I think you should wait someday instead of doing extra links.

Wait for few days and then try to get some good quality links. After Penguin update, they are penalizing your site for low quality backlinks. It is also important to diversify your anchor text a lot while linking to your sites.

I think we should all focus on 100% url as anchor and then waiting for the next update lol.

I do have to say something about all these updates:

    My SEO site has:

    - poor grammar content
    - terrible back links
    - EMD and with links over optimized

However, it's still ranking at the 1st page for the EMD keyword, hardly any searches but whatever.

It does kind of amaze me.

Now the good part about the site though:

    - I made it a standard thing to post each PRweb press release on my site in a blog section
    - It has a service section where packages are listed
    - It has a PAGE homepage instead of a list of posts
    - It has a testimonial section
    - It has a pretty expensive theme

So despite the negative parts it actually looks like a REAL website.

Perhaps that's the whole clue, to mix posts and pages, and make each page look totally different then the other, instead of having 50 pages all in the same format. Anyone ever thought about that?

  • One of my EMD site got hit. It was between 1 and 4 on some 20 terms. It moved from 8 to 40. Was this an EMD penalty or not? I'm confused after reading the above. Hits on my sites have also halved.

Yesterday one of my 10 year old site which is not an EMD had its hits reduced to 25 percent of their original traffic. This site is rock solid with a lot of relevant content and no manipulation of links so not sure why it suddenly got after 10 years of steady traffic.
