is there any conclusion that blog.domain.com is better than www.domain.com/blog (or vice versa) for SEO purpose? or, it is a myth, and really depends on case by case. Or, it really does not matter, and depends on how to build the back links. or else?

thanks

www.domain.com/blog is much better for SEO and will help the SE rankings at your main domain name (www.domain.com).

blog.yourdomain.com is treated almost like a new site by the SE's and subdomains don't rank well in general, which is why you hardly ever see them used.

I call Shenanigans! What forum did you read that on?

Here's right from Matt Cutt's keyboard
      Subdomains and subdirectories

Do whichever you want, it makes no difference from an SEO standpoint (unless you're trying to game the system). However, I would advise /blog, but only because that's my preference.

Subdomains ARE threatened as a new website and they always have been. A fresh subdomain won't rank as well as a subpage on a strong website - just because of few incoming links. I bet that your main site will always have more incoming links than your fresh subdomain. Besides of that, i think it is always better to build ONE huge superstrong website than have the content spread over subdomains.

Definately go for the /blog solution

I have a subdomain that ranks better than a main domain.

Depends on what you are doing with it.

BTW, Both of them are WP blogs. Subdomain has higher PR.

subdomain names do rank well and many do use them. There is no difference between myname.myomain.com and mydomain.com/myname/ as matter fact on some host a subdomain name is the exact ame thing as a subfolder. Meaning it can be used as either.

I have used many subdomain names and rankings and such and yes using a subdomain name will help increase the ranking of the main domain name also...

This is kind of a funny discussion. If you are interlinking the two sub-domains to the main domain, and vice versa, you are going to be interlinking their authority, and their ranking.

Before you choose, decide your purpose. I have a generic reviews domain where I create subdomains to test diverse markets, and want them separated. They do not link together for that reason.

It is really going to come down to one thing, how well do you build your internal linking structure, where do your incoming links go.

We of course all know that Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and all the major players don't have a clue, they all avoid sub-domains, right???
