Background ads

Hi,
I have a site that wants to use background ads(or skins) for their site. The want the ad to be click-able. Does anyone know if this hurts the on site SEO. They have a very good Google presence so I'm worried Google might not like this type of marketing ads and drop the site off the map.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
