Full update on Google's webmaster central blogspot (I can't post links).

Notice at the bottom they say there's going to be over 500 more of these micro updates. That could mean a lot of work for SEOers.

I think you are a tad behind the times. Light years?

Waiting with baited breath when you can post links....

Every Google update has penalized ads above the fold. People should have stopped using ads above the fold ages ago! If you're still using them, well, here's another friendly Google warning to stop it asap.

People are warned not to do a lot of stupid things but every week I read in the paper of some idiot redneck car surfing or some dumb stunt.

      That's wrong.

Google doesn't have a problem with having Ads above the fold, people here are taking what G said to the extreme.

I rank plenty of pages/keywords that load an Ad in the header (top/center), been doing it for years, nothing has changed (still ranked).

Thing is that ads above the fold often convert much better then when having it somewhere at the middle or in the sidebar.

Yep, this is especially a premium spot when you direct sell ads too.

My forum got hit and dropped from 1 to 4, with 3 youtube vids taking its place at 1. I am leaving the ads where they are for now due to them being far and away the best converting. Oddly enough, my earnings today are way up, maybe because ecpn is better.

Another round of speculation again. Let's see some credible "evidence" that reasonable ad placement above the fold is penalized! Example - if I were the WM of CNN.com I'd immediately move my IBM ad blog top right hand side.
