I just looked at an affiliate offer with this crazy clause:

Affiliates must not bid more than $0.45 on keyword(s)

Talk about total control. Sorry, the offer looked good, but when I saw that I passed. I don't want to pay $.45 a keyword, but I'll be &*&(&( if they are going to control how much I bid. If they will do that, they'll squeeze out affiliates at will, use them for research on what works, and ban them from using more and more keywords and phrases.

That's probably the maximum the product owner wants to spend per click on his own advertising. He's probably done the math and worked out that 45 cents is the optimal cost, and any more is losing money.

    Still, definitely a control freak.

That is just too funny! I mean he wouldn't want you to get out there and aggressively promote his program now would he?!

Most advertisers test or run their most obvious keywords 1st tier, having affiliates run up the click cost and having to pay them for the privilege is adding insult to injury. Most advertisers are more subtle and prohibit specific keywords or search marketing entirely.
