How I generate niche traffic.

The niche I'm in has a software that is king of this niche, think Photoshop cult like followers/buyers. Anyone that has been around Photoshop knows that Adobe owns that niche when it comes to software, the company selling software in the same niche I'm in has these same type of followers/buyers. End users are always waiting for the next version of niche software to be released, the software is top of the line (basically no competition).

Anyways, I link out of my own sites pages to this niche software domain, no affiliate link, just a plain link because I know my traffic recognizes that software (traffic trust). I also know Google recognizes that software/domain as an authority in the SERPs for this niche.

On my own site I provide files that my traffic can download to use with this niche software, the files can be used with about a dozen other similar software, but this one software company dominates for having the easiest to use & quality software (still has a learning curve).

Part of what keeps my site with consistent targeted traffic flow is the niche software company doesn't care about providing downloadable files related to their software, instead they sell the software to create the files. Where my site comes in is giving people new to the software a starting point to be up & running ASAP, the traffic can use my files as a starting point or as an end product that they can turn around and sell as part of a larger product or simply use as a hobby, that gives me two types of free traffic (hobby niche, small business niche) from the same downloadable files on my site (everyone wins).

Links,

Anyone trying to create decent links, ask yourself "Would I bookmark my own page If I was niche traffic?" If the answer is No, well, nobody else cares about the page your trying to backlink. Be honest & stop thinking about money long enough to truthfully answer the question.

My point here is, when building links think like your traffic thinks. If you can't instantly give a Yes answer to the bookmarking question above, you already know the answer is No, your page isn't worthy of a backlink (fix it).

Just because you have an affiliate link doesn't give your page a purpose, what I'm saying is, you have to prove to traffic you have something they want/need. That's the whole point of even doing SEO, having something the traffic want's/needs.

What's worked for me is setting my site up like a supplier. Look at BMW for instance, BMW doesn't build cars from raw materials, BMW assembles sub-assemblies that are created from raw materials in 3rd party business. In my niche, I'm the 3rd party, I supply content/files that is relevant to a software business. The niche software business has links all over their forum pointing back to my site, I have never built a single link on their forum, my traffic built the forum links to try & help other forum members find useful files that they can download & use on this specific software.

In this example, I could care less about SEO, because I'm skipping the middle man (Google SERPs) & getting direct laser targeted niche traffic for free. The reason I'm getting that free niche traffic is because I provided a source of useful content/files for my traffic. Keep in mind this traffic is mostly buyers, the software isn't free. So I'm getting buyers sent to my site, from a niche software site I've never built links on (my traffic built the links).

I also get plenty of return traffic (buyer traffic) because they've learnt my site is a source of files that are useful & serve a purpose. Believe me when I say return traffic is the easiest to monetize, when someone trust you because they've had a good experience on your site the trust level goes way up for any future products/services you have to offer.

I've never understood the folks on this forum that create the small MFA type sites & their goal is to get traffic on their page from the SERPs, & next to get that traffic to leave ASAP via Adsense, Amazon, Clickbank, etc.. Good grief, they created buyer traffic & don't care If the buyer ever returns to their site, IMO, that's just crazy thinking & looks like a lot of wasted time they've invested into their sites. The goal should be to keep buyers returning to your site, some people don't always buy on their first visit to a site, it might take 2 or 3 (or however many) visits before they decide to buy. I have Adsense on a few sites, but I defiantly want my traffic to keep coming back to my site/s, If they clicked Adsense once they might click again on a return visit If the Ad is relevant to the page content.

I want my pages bookmarked by traffic, I want the traffic building niche links, I want my traffic telling anyone they know that's also interested in the same niche, about my sites.

It's not difficult to create a site that has a purpose. All you have to do is look around the net & figure out how you can compliment a product that has buyer traffic. What would that buyer traffic want that the actual product doesn't provide?

Example,
  • If I wanted to target Photoshop traffic (buyer traffic) I would own at least one site that offered .psd files (traffic lure), then monetize with paid premium packages of .psd files or any related content.
  • If I wanted to target iphone traffic (buyer traffic) I would offer free wallpapers for their phone (traffic lure) then up-sell on the latest iphone related accessories/phones. iphone will always have new phones coming out, which will always have new accessories.
  • If I wanted to target TomTom (GPS) traffic (buyer traffic), I would offer maps to download (traffic lure). Upsell on the latest greatest GPS available.
  • etc...

The list could go on all day, the point here is that for every paid product in this world, there's always a way to offer that buyer traffic something more, that they can't get from the original seller (BMW, Adobe, Apple, TomTom, etc...).

I know this forum is infatuated with articles, I also know some of the people on this forum suck at writing articles. Personally I hate writing, I find it very boring, I write more on this forum than I do on all my sites combined, I still SEO & rank my pages just fine (without articles).

If writing articles is your thing, hats off to you, keep writing.

Just know, that you always have options when it comes to creating useful sites & that it's not that complicated to find laser targeted buyer traffic outside of the SERPs. There's absolutely nothing wrong with SERP traffic, there's also nothing wrong with return traffic, that's actually a really good thing when it comes to earning money online. It's not just people returning to your site, their returning because they're interested in what you have to offer.

This is what I do & I guarantee anyone else can do the same thing, If they only slow down long enough to think like a buyer.

This is an awesome thread man! We have not had many value-added threads here in a while!

Really, I think it comes down to making people's lives easier! Just like a site that offers iPad tutorials or even a page on a site that provides a calculator for people to work out the interest on a loan.

Google's premise of building a quality site and offering something of value to attract links does work but it surely does help to get the ball rolling by promoting a valuable site to a targeted audience somehow or the other.

    Thanks for the info!

Funny how good posts like this don't get the same number of responses as crappy "What's the best link spamming software" type threads.

Damn you Warrior Forum!! i should atleast be allowed to thank Yukon Twice for this wonderful thread. This is the kind of information that i come to WF to look for. I remember using zedge.net to download themes, wallpapers, ringtones and much more for my cell phone. i not only downloaded them myself i also told my friends about it. why? it offered something that i couldn't find from Nokia's website. its just simple logic that if you offer something of great value, people will come back to you, whether its internet or real life.

but anyways what an amazing post Yuke! and we want more posts like these from you man.

Cell phones are a good example.

Really you only need two pieces of info. to get started in any buyers niche:
      • Does the product cost money (buyer traffic)?
      • Does the product consistently have a large group of followers/buyers (steady flow of traffic)?

Next, figure out what would compliment the product (Nokia phone), then use that to your advantage to lure the buyer traffic to your own site. Create a site that offers something the original seller (Nokia) doesn't offer (themes, wallpapers, ringtones (careful with copyrights)).

Remember Nokia isn't competition, Nokia is generating buyer traffic that you can tap into & sell whatever related products you want.

I noticed when the first ipads came out, a few new wallpaper sites popped up specifically targeting that ipad traffic. What's funny about the ipad wallpaper niche is, folks are simply re-sizing old existing wallpapers, then advertising as ipad wallpaper sites. It's the same product (wallpaper) packaged differently.

So If I had a desktop wallpaper site, I could take each page on that site & turn that same wallpaper into ipad wallpaper, then create a new site specifically targeting the ipad niche. I could also use the first existing site which would already have existing ranked pages in Google SERPs for the "desktop wallpaper" niche as backlinks pointing at my new "ipad wallpaper" site/pages. This way I could piggyback off the 1st sites existing SEO for the root keyword "wallpaper".

Now you could have 2 sources of traffic for a new site (apple/ipad forums, SERPs). Give the ipad wallpapers away for free on ipad niche forums one at a time as you create them, which the wallpapers would actually be recycled from the original "desktop wallpaper" site, but traffic could care less, they just wan't a cool wallpaper for their new ipad.

Now we all know that when someone buys an ipad, they're most likely going to keep buying each time a new ipad comes out, If you made a good impression the first time they visited your site, they'll be back the next time they want a different wallpaper.

As far as monetizing something like an ipad wallpaper site, you could sell apps, ipad accessories, ebooks, etc..., or your own product wallpaper bundles, or whatever.

I hear people on this forum (WF) talk how giving away free content (ex: wallpaper) won't generate buyers, IMO they look at it all wrong. The goal isn't to turn freebie seekers into buyers, the goal is to find proven buyers. If a person buys an ipad, they will buy anything related to that ipad, as long as they find it interesting. I don't have to sell ipads to earn money from the same traffic.

The ipad is just an example, all of this applies to anything that can be bought & has a following (buyers).

      [edit]
Anytime you do anything with images, always add a watermark to the image for branding & to keep competition from scraping your images. Example, on the ipad wallpaper, add a watermark to one of the corners of the wallpaper image. Also public-domain images can serve as wallpaper sources, really anything in the public-domain, just make sure you get those types of images from reputable sites that are trustworthy (do the research to avoid copyrights).

Wallpaper is only an example of generating traffic, I don't want anyone getting into trouble over copyrighted content, I can't stress enough to do the research & verify something you use is actually in the public-domain.

I would imagine a home loan calculator page with mortgage Ads would be a good earning page as long as you could constantly drive traffic. Usually the higher the product cost the higher the affiliate commission. For something like that calculator page you could probably drive traffic from DIY home improvement forums (home owners looking for better mortgage rates). Basically go to wherever homeowners hang out on the web.

I would still build out a site that was related to the niche (home repair) to get traffic interested in the whole site. A forum is ok for asking questions, I would imagine it's difficult to find a step-by-step detailed answer like home improvement. Still forums are gathering places for niche traffic (bingo).

Thanks for this piece of gold Yukon.

When you tell people that there are ways to attract traffic in any niche, most get in complete denial mode without spending a second thinking outside the box. This is a perfect example of what can one do with any niche.

And yes, such threads tend to get buried under the avalanche of "Google broke my spammed site" threads. I opened one a few days ago trying to get people think about the exact things you talk about and I can't even find that thread now

A lot of people get hung up on SEO traffic & start thinking it's the only way to generate traffic (it's not). I read things on this forum like "Don't put all your eggs in one basket" meaning don't create only a large site. What they're missing is, it doesn't matter how many sites you have If your single source of traffic dries up. The single site isn't the problem, the problem is the lack of traffic, it's the traffic that needs to be diversified. You could have 100 sites, cool as long as you can keep traffic flowing into those sites.

The reason I posted this thread in the SEO sub-forum was to show it's not complicated to find traffic, it does take work, most things worthwhile will usually take work & commitment.

There's nothing wrong with SEO, I use the the SERPs as part of my traffic everyday. I don't want anyone to take this thread the wrong way.

If anything I hope people reading this see that alternative traffic can be a cushion to soften anything Google decides to dish out in the SERPs. Alternative traffic can give you time to recover in the SERPs (If needed). This isn't meant to replace the SERPs, it's simply part of generating traffic.

No, I don't have an IM blog.

          "adsense .... 5 years..."?
I think that was the forum thread I attached a pdf of the entire thread (in the thread OP), you might ask around maybe someone saved a copy of the pdf.

There's no way I can replace all those old threads. I just now hit +8K forum post, I have a hard time remembering what I posted a month ago, let alone a year or so ago.
