I am relatively new to internet marketing. One of the main areas that confuses me is one of the initial steps... And that is Keyword research. I wanted to see if anyone could help with some tips on this.

I am looking for examples of sites they use and what they look for when determining keywords or determining a niche to get into by researching keywords.

    Hi driven247,

There are many keyword tools available. I would start with these and then move on to others once you've mastered these:

    Google Trends
    https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
    Seo Book Keyword Suggestion Tool
    SpyFu

Don't concentrate on keyword but concentrate on niche... there is no accurate keyword tool and those common and generic keywords are hard to beat... try to focu on niche and concentrate on non-generic related keywords...

Great answers I appreciate the help. With that being said another question comes to mind.

How many keywords should you focus on for a niche blog?

To narrow it down how many keywords should you focus on for a particular article or post to a niche blog?

I'm not looking for exact answers more or less a guideline for this stuff.

      Thank You

Wordtracker is also a popular candidate. Although this does have a subscription fee.

I really like google adwords tool aswell, and also a touch of brain power

Wordtracker, SpyFu along with the Google keyword tool are more than enough for keyword research.

I have to agree here i have made a post recently about this and there is no accurate kw tool.

Stick to a theme, if there are website and forums about the niche it has got to be profitable .

BTW google kw tool is mainly for adwords traffic but its great for ideas as it has improved over the year.

      Good luck!

Too much keyword sometimes makes your article spammy... The best thing to do is to create an article with less but targeted ketword and the idea must be solid.

Although no guarantee of its competitors have done your keyword research properly, you can get a good idea of what phrases the target or applying online or using a tool like Keyword Spy.
