Weird Google Updates (Penalizing Domains)

Hi, so, two of my sites have been hit by some penalization and it's completely beyond me...

Site 1:
100,000 monthly unique visitors
Only ONE post now ranks on Google, but it's top (down to 1,000 monthly uniques)

Site 2:
30,000 monthly uniques
Only two posts rank on Google
(Main domain has dropped completely, was first page)
(Tons of posts were ranked 1st, now only two posts)
(Down to 1,000 monthly uniques)

So, it seems like Google's dropped all posts except for one post on both sites...?

I don't get it at all...

Edit: No surveys were used, no CPL, no bad ad placements... Just a clean, fresh looking template with sidebar ads.

    The first question.. is when did this happen. If you don't check your sites daily then what period of time.

      Site 2 got slapped around three weeks ago. Made no changes, one or two posts still rank first. Other posts completely disappeared and you can no longer find the domain with an EMD search (extremely low competition, it's my online persona, so there's no competition)

      Site 1 got slapped two days ago. One post with 16k monthly searches still ranks first. All images have been dropped from google images, all other posts dropped. New posts don't rank at all. This is an AUTHORITY site with roughly PR4/PR5 on next google update.

        There were several updates around that time if I am recalling correctly. Most revolved around content. Hard to really say because SEO/Google is a keep up to date kind of thing. 3 weeks behind is like 3 light years

        Now I recall the other day some members asking if there was an update, I noticed no changes in traffic either downward or upward which is usually my first clue of an update. The pulling of all the images though does make me wonder if you have a copyright issue on your site though, just a speculation though.
