I got affected positively by last google update? strange!

Although I did lots of wrong things in my first ( and only till now ) website, I moved from page rank 6 to 4 for my main keyword " Egyptian food recipes".

These things are.

- hyphens in domain name (egyptian-food-recipes.com/)
- no original content
- almost no backlink building strategy

I don't understand how is that happen?!

      Nothing wrong with hyphens in a domain.
      Not sure why you would think so.

      Original content is also overrated.
      Especially in the "recipe" niche.

      You don't need a backlinking strategy. You just
      need to be indexed for a chance.

      Probably not a lot of people searching for
      egyptian food recipes, and, if your site gives
      people some decent egyptian food recipes,
      original or not, well....

      You are proof that people need to stop listening to
      so-called SEO guru's who have some magical
      list of don'ts.

    Build a decent site/page, throw 2-3 good links at it and you should be #1 (if the keywords aren't competitive).

    @paulgl maybe you are true we don't have to listen to them.. but newbies like me, have to follow a path. its a big problem that the path it self is a matter of questioning!

    will it be a matter of trying and error until we get some money of the internet, as long as my experience prove its not a business model?
