Hypethetical question:

how much you would spend on genuine PR3 domains?

no particualr keywords, just general domains for maybe making a private network for SEO of sorts-

    Around $50.

If the domain has PR4 and up backlinks then I'd pay more. But if the highest dofollow PR that is still alive and pointing to that domain is only 3 then I won't pay more than $50.

If I'm going to use a domain for my private network, I don't care if it has 1 or 100,000,000 characters in the domain name. What I care about is its PR and whether or not it will retain its PR months or years after I buy it.

EDIT: I lied. I also care about whether it was dropped or not. Dropped once can still be OK depending on other factors. Dropped more than 1x then I won't look at it even for $0.01

Good Pr3s will run you $50-$80

Most of the ones that sell for substantially less will need to be built up with extra links to maintain their PR.

Suir1980 just looking at the PR of the best link is not good enough. A domain with just a PR4 link and say 120 links for example will not keep that site a PR3 - too much OBL.

Well, I didn't want to completely detail my buying techniques/criterias but you are right. I simply wanted to post a quick reply to the OP's scenario.

If a domain I'm interested in for example is a PR3, then it must have other PR3 links pointing to it ***and*** at least two other links with higher PRs (4, 5, etc.). Then these links must have low OBL (generally less than 50) and must not come from one site only (including subdomain and what-not). They must be from completely different sites etc.

How would such a domain have reached PR3 in the first place? High PR links in the past that have since been deleted?

Just for the sake of page rank? Probably about $0

I had a bunch sitting at my old registrar but just purged them.

I almost bought a good software blog the other day pr4 $300

Was thinking of trying to scale it up...either that or setting it up on a dedicated IP on my VPS to "support" one of my own blogs.

But I can't even be bothered wasting energy on that crap.

And I wouldn't have had the time/resources to maintain it properly.

You're not a fan of creating private blog networks then
