The No SEO No Google Case Study

I've been dealing with Adsense and affiliate sites for about 2 years now, and I've seen all kinds of things happening in the meantime. My Adsense account was closed, my affiliate sites went up and down with countless updates.
Nowadays, me and my partner are starting to take a completely different route with our IM efforts. Although the Amazon sites we have created are doing well, we simply don't want to be waiting for the next algorithm update or anything to ruin our efforts.
We are certainly OK with making money with those sites, but we want something better for the long run.
So, we are starting a no SEO no Google kind of project. The project consists of one site that will grow continuously. We want to document our efforts and progress here, not only for ourselves but for all warriors. After all, if we can do it, anyone can do it.
How will it work?
- We will create a single site that will be monetized with a series of methods except for Adsense.
- We won't give a damn about SEO or Google; meaning that we won't bother optimizing the posts, we won't create any kind of links and we won't give a rat's arse whether or not we are ranked in SERPs.
- We will use subdomains for different topics within the site to provide a better organized content to our visitors (like health.domain.com; parenting.domain.com).
- Unlike what we have done so far, we won't target any keywords. The focus will be the people. We will target women (20+ years) and tailor everything (the content and the monetization methods) for them.
- We will also talk about how much we have spent and how much we have earned to paint a clearer picture.
The main idea is to create a site that will provide useful and fun content for women. We will include main topics like health, fitness, cooking, parenting, etc and we will complement our content with related offers.
The Site Structure
We believe that the site structure will be key here. Since we won't be targeting keywords, our traffic will be based on the pictures, articles/videos, etc. that we share in social networks. Hence, we need to present our visitors with related offers in each section of the site.
To do so, we will use the Catalyst theme. Each section will have its own sidebar and banners so that we can display related offers. We will also create special reports, tips, etc. and promote them in the sidebars of related topics in an effort to build a mailing list.
The Traffic
We will be receiving our traffic mainly from social sites and networks like Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, etc. Since each site and network has a somewhat different audience, we will be using different kinds of content for each site.
For instance, we will try to attract fans in Facebook through Facebook games. We will publish tips, guides, etc. for these games, become members of other fan pages and drive traffic through our fan page. The key then will be to keep those visitors on our site (and to make them revisit, subscribe to our mailing list, etc.) by providing them with interesting, fun and useful content.
Likewise, we will be publishing motivational quotes on Pinterest since these seem to draw a lot of attention.
We will also create a few animated video characters that will give tips on different subjects, tell funny stories, comment on recent events and popular figures, etc. We will also be publishing those videos in Youtube, Vimeo, etc.
We have also identified a few forums that we can use to create a presence and drive traffic. We will post as many useful posts and answer as many questions as we can in these forums. Our site will also have a forum that we aim to populate as soon and as much as we can.
The Monetization
We will use a combination of Amazon products, other (specific) affiliate programs and rent ad space from each category. We will also be running special banners for all holidays to take advantage of the shopping craze.
Again, the key will be the proper and smart use of real estate. Each section on the site will have different banners and links to different products in order to maximize our CTR and conversions.
Progress Reports
We have already purchased our domain (a short, funny and brandable domain) and are in the process of implementing the basic site structure. Once that is done, we will start posting content. The first pieces of content will be on health, motivation and Facebook games.
I aim to update our progress three times a week on this thread. I will also report when something important happens (like something going viral and bringing in a flood of visitors, etc.) and answer any questions we receive.
Like I said, we won't be bothering with SERPs; but since we'll see any traffic coming from search engines, I'll report our organic search traffic as well.
So all in all, our aim is to prove to ourselves that this model will work and create a site and a business that will last for years, no matter what Google (or any other search engine) does.
I really believe this will work out as long as we do what it takes.
