Can someone else add your domain to a public Spam List?

Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask these sort of questions, I did have a look around but sadly couldn't spot an area for it.

I've spotted that we're getting a lot of email delivery failure notices from customers who have a Hotmail account today. This is from our main e-commerce business (domain) and we strictly do not spam.

As such, I was wondering if it was possible that someone (competitor) is adding our domain to some sort of public (Hotmail?) spam list?

Is that possible? and if so then how do we fix it?

Much appreciated, thank you.

No, it's Microsoft. Microsoft, Yahoo & AOL are notorious for bouncing emails even though tons a SPAM come from their networks.

You need to contact your hosting provider so they can get in touch with them to have the IP's removed. What are the error codes in the bounceback emails? It would be something like 550 CS or along those lines.

      Hi there,

Thank you so much for the reply and info.

The error message (I think), is this...

"<emailaddy@hotmail.co.uk>: Connected to 65.54.188.126 but sender was rejected. Remote host said: 550 SC-001 (BAY0-MC4-F17) Unfortunately, messages from 78.129.213.7 weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to Troubleshooting. "

      Does that help?

      Many thanks,

      Tu

        Here's the error: 550 SC-001

You need to give the entire bounce back message to your web host.

Sure thing. Keep in mind it may take a while to get it resolved. They will need to contact Microsoft and provide an explanation. We have to do this periodically, and it's a bit time consuming.

If you send out bulk emails from an email program within
your website, you run that risk. The have algos that
detect bulk spam, words, subject, etc. and causes those triggers
          to kick in.

Your host may take a personal interest and help you, but
most big ones don't. They don't want you sending bulk
emails. It's probably against their policy anyway.

MS is very militant about that.

What you say is "not spam," may be spam to an algorithm.

What you really should be doing, is requiring people to not
use those free, throw-away email addresses. That and using
a good second party email program.
