Pics for Seo - Methods of use

Hello,

I have a corporate, non-affiliate site with access to tons of photographs of customers. It seems to me there are at least three ways to effectively use photos:

  • Social Media and Social Bookmarking... FB, twitter etc
  • Image Servers like Photobucket, Imgur etc
  • Have a photo gallery in your own directory... Coppermine, 4images

Question:
What am I missing? Why dont more people build their own photogallery in their own sites directory? It seems like an easy way to generate dynamic content with ALT tags and relevant naming. 95% of the people out there just throw pics into Facebook or NoFollow directories like Pintrest, Igur etc.

Certainly, they all have merit. Even NoFollow sites, while not Google friendly, drive traffic but seems like a personal photogallery is a big advantage and complement the other methods:

Photo servers (Tumblr, imgur) = Great organic traffic but poor for Google
Personal Gallery = Great for Google but poor for organic searches.

Perhaps photo gallerys are a pain to maintain? Too easily hacked?

Which Photo Gallery can you recommend? I use 4images. Its ugly and cumbersome but I really like the funtionality.

Is a personal photogallery worth it?

Thanks!!

I dont think people will come to the personal photo gallery unless you have some thing worth their while. imgur type of sites drive traffic by piquing interest in the user with shock/awe kind of headlines. Traffic coming from imgur is not targeted and converts very poorly.

I agree. Although some customers will come to the site because there are photos posted of them.. It's the Google factor I'm questioning.

It seems to me the dynamic content, tags and file names would make Google happy.
