Hello I may be knew by post count but I have been lurking for a few months. I have decided to join to ask about my idea for a website, hoping to get some help from you professionals. Thanks in advance

I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on this before I try to make the site. The site would allow people to give a price range and what they would like to do with the computer I will research the unique needs of customers and publicly post their request on a blog so that other people will be able to view the parts lists so that they will not have to submit a request if their price range and needs have already been met. I will offer a video on how to put a computer together after they get the parts. I will also find the parts from the cheapest vendor when possible. I plan on adding ads to the site if it takes off including ppv, adsense, and potentially clicks or for banner ads and interstitial links.
The description may be confusing but here is a step by step
1.Person comes to site looking for a computer design
2.Viewer searches tags for their price range that meet their needs
3.If Viewer finds what they are looking for they can download the parts list in a word document through an adf.ly link
4. If Viewer doesn't see a price range they can afford or has needs that are not met they may request a personal design. I also recommend a request for a case.
5. Person will be emailed their list and it will be posted publicly without their information.

Potential advertisers for the site: Newegg, TigerDirect, Amazon.

Tell me what you think of this site idea and give some constructive criticism. Thank you all in advance.

Welcome to Warrior Forums firstly! Secondly, though you are talking about Adsense and PPC, I don't think the idea behind the whole website fits into this section. Nonetheless, here's a couple thoughts from me:

I'm a pretty big computer person myself, and I know from experience, when building a computer, I generally rely on a database of users who have owned previous products and reviews to determine if a certain part is right for me. The great thing about building a PC (assuming we're not talking about Hakintosh's here) is that virtually every piece of hardware fits together. As such, that leaves the combination of possible computers in the thousands upon thousands.

I'm not trying to be mean, but do you see the problem already? As well, the price range idea is a good one, as well as use, but some of that stuff is so subjective. Case in point, I use a number of graphical and computational intensive softwares as a part of my college studies. When Newegg or Autodesk recommends to me my to buy the $1000 card, and the $300 one works better, well I call that misleading advertising, but I have no doubt people to this day still believe that because they spent more, they have a better computer.

Maybe I'm being really biased (just cause I'm a big computer person), but the choice on computer components based around a number of factors (price, brand, use, etc.) leaves the number of possibilites for machines far too many.

You haven't mentioned what type of website you'd be running, I'd assume you'd be doing this blog style, with each proposed machine being a new post, allowing you to keep an archive of previous builds. Again, one of your weaknesses being computers is that because they advance so much, an article that may only be 3 months old could be totally outdated. So if your planning on writing a hundred or so combinations, putting them into files, explaining the pro's and con's to each, then uploading them all... Well just know they'll all be outdated within a year. With that my main point is this: If this was an idea for a "set and forget" Adsense website, picking on of the worlds fastest moving industries might not be the best bet.

As well, with a new website, you will need to build up HUGE creditability in order for any of your proposed machines to be even considered. Put your feet in a possible visitors shoes, "why should I believe what's being written here?". While I doubt you have an extensive background in computer design, or have a degree in any computer field, if you do, it would be well worth your effort to build up credibility around your name, just as someone such as Walt Mossberg with the Wall Street Journal has done (he's the technology columnist for the WSJ if you didn't know).

Another point, why do they need to download a Word file with the layout? This sounds far more complicated, will put additional load on your server, and will only return if you have huge volume if your only adveritising is an adf.ly ad. My recommendation: Keep the parts on the website and sign up as a affiliate for sites like Newegg and Amazon. Then when you link people to the parts on those sites, if they buy, you'll make a small portion of the sale. You'll make your visitors feel safer because they won't need to download a file that could be infected with a virus, and they won't have to copy and paste part names from a document into Google to find the part.

I know that's a lot to read, but it's my honest opinion. Feel free to respond on any of my points and I'd love to elaborate more.
