In off page Optimization, Google gives ranks to those sites having maximum no. of quality links. Quality link means getting links from theme based site, like if your website is related to SEO than you would be in benefit if you get the links from SEO related sites.

Getting quality links from theme sites are not an easy task. Link building takes so much time. You can submit you websites in different Directories from where you can get the one way link.

Some sources of one way links are Articles Directories, PR Sites, Link Directories, Blog Posts, Forums, Social Networks, Social Bookmarking, Blog Comments.

      Hi seminars82,

PageRank is a simply a score Google gives a page based on how many links lead directly or indirectly to the page. Also known as link popularity.

This is purely a quantitative number and says absolutely nothing about the quality of those inbound links. As such, this score has little influence on your ranking in search engine result pages (SERP). Relevance and Authority scores take precedence.

A better question would be "Any tips on building high Authority on a website"?

All you need to get high PR is several links from other high PR pages.

But Don, that would mean relying on the toolbar pagerank. There's no way that anyone will start a link building campaign by using the correct method of Google tools.

So, forget the toolbar pagerank because you maybe trying to create a good link and end up linking from the wrong page of a website. Go for 'relevance' of content and forget the pr element.

Don't forget to link out as well as in - based on relevance only.

Let me explain in more detail.

You see a toolbar page rank of 8 for xyz site dot com - Oh great I'll link there. But you link to the home page - the page with the relative content could be a zero 12 pages in to the main site. Wasted effort.

          Hi CTABUK,

Perhaps you misunderstood my post. I don't believe that the Toolbar will give you any indication of the authority a page has, only PR. I believe authority is only passed to relevant pages, while PR is passed to pages that may not be relevant.

I agree with you, PR is of no meaningful SEO value, authority is important and relevance is supreme. A page with little relevance passes little or no authority.

There is a technique that can improve relevance of the linking page, but does not enhance the linking page's authority. While you do receive some benefit using this technique, however I'm with you, it's far better to go for relevant pages to get that extra authority, which is the essence of backlink quality.

I will repeat for clarity, PR is not an indication of quality, pursing links based purely on PR is not the optimal method of increasing your website traffic.

To get high PR all you really need to do is to get a lot of backlinks from high PR sites that are on different c class servers.

You might want to do the following:-

    1) Optimise your page (SEO)
    2) Make your pages bot-crawl friendly, all jpeg pix should have descriptive words relating to the actual "content"; don't "trick" the bot into endless loops.
    3) Site map
    4) Policy page

I have recently been experimenting with donating to Open Source Projects with PR6 and PR7 ($25-$100 one time donation) and in return getting listed on their thank you page also (PR6 & PR7) with my keyword anchor text and a permanent 1 way link to my URL. I' am currently on the 4th page for a keyword that has 6,570,000 results. I would highly recommend this strategy.

      Absolutely.

Also, I guess you must be pr0 in toolbar as toolbar was updated a few days ago. If this is so you need to wait 3 months before next update, and meanwhile it will be hard to find people who want to exchange links with you. But if you were, say pr1 or 2, than exchanging links will give you juice.

Also try posting articles on other people's sites with a link to your site as payment for the article.
