tiered linking/link wheel

Hi,
I was quite excited to see a tiered backlink wheel strategy article:
THE Backlinking Strategy That Works
In this strategy, you create 5 blog posts that points to your site (1st layer),
then make mass social bookmark and Unique Article Wizard links pointing to blog sites (2nd layer). The reason here to have 2nd layer poinnting to 1st layer and not the site, is because in this example the site is a microniche adsense site with few pages and cant handle too many links too fast, and for building PR value to 1st layer blog posts.

In my case, I have an ecommerce site. In my case what is the difference between creating a 2 tier linking strategy as above and pointing all links to my site?
#linking or link #tiered #wheel

It depends on if you are buying links or earning links. In the example you point out it is a pretty solid strategy and it is natural in nature as you are creating valuable content in the blog posts and amplifying the content through social bookmarking sites.

This is a pretty safe technique and if you point the blog posts back to the ecomm site you will be fine as long as they provide value and serve a purpose to be linked directly to your ecomm site. The social bookmarks (and I recommend amplifying through social channels too) will provide a bump to the posts which will pass on the potential authority. I say potential as it all depends on the age of the domain the posts are on, page rank, traffic yada yada yada....

Thanks for your great reply Intergen..
I just want to ask to clarify,
what do you mean buy "it depends on whether you are buying links or earning links"
and how does this relate to this case.

In your situation you are talking about creating good content in the form of blog posts and then sending these to your site. If the posts are good and when you amplify them through social channels someone may decide to link to that article in their own blog or social channel. When they do this you have earned a back link which will then transfer authority to your ecomm site.

Buying links is what a lot of people do to get their sites started and/or ranked in the SERP's. But its always a crap shoot as Google changes their algorithms and you never know if you are buying quality links.

It doesn't sound like that is what you are doing so what you were initially proposing is a sound strategy to achieve long term ranking for your site.

That article is a bit out of date now although does offer some great foundation advice.

Have a look at this tutorial for a more detailed look at tiered link building as a whole.

      Thanks Matthew,
I just saw your video and its an amazing resource.
I just want to ask how long after creating tier 1 links, should i create the tier 2 links.
and since you are doing so many links in each tier like 100 +, should i be dripfeeding the links like 10 a day or something in each tier?

You can do as many links as often as you want. Google can handle it. Just be consistent with what you do over time so if you do 100 do 100 a day for a few weeks.

        Cheers

As soon as the tier 1s are finished creating move onto the other tiers. No need to drip feed tier 2 or 3.
