If one receives a too many unatural links message from Google on a domain less than 1 year old... would it be a good idea to purchase an old domain with a lot of backlinks and then redirect it to your penalized domain?

    It would be a better idea to purchase the old domain with "good" backlinks and switch everything over there. Get rid of the less than 1 year old domain with spam links altogether.

    Would there be any advantage to redirecting the old to the new. I had a number 1 ranking for quite a few keywords. Took me about 4 months to get there.

      Its really not easy to recover from google penalty. You should first find the reason why google penalized you? Then take step to overcome it. If its about your content then make sure that you content should be unique and not unrelated links in the article. If its about link which you put in your site then please delete all unrelated links from your site. If you take proper step then you should get result. But be patient!
