How To Fix Your SEO Penguin Penalized Site?

Okay so Google has finally launched their new disavow tool!

So what does this mean?

Well basically if you have been penalized you now have a way to reverse those bad link profiles thus reversing your penalties!

Now wouldn't it be cool if we had a way to cure specific penalties with this very tool?

Well I got you covered. This is what you do so pay attention!

Save Your Site

Now I'm going to warn you that this tool is pretty much useless if you don't use it the right way. As a matter of fact you can destroy a healthy site with one wrong move so BE CAREFUL!

What we must do with this tool is use it to target very specific penalties. The 3 most common ones are:
  1. Bad anchor text
  2. Mass devalued “bad” links
  3. Poor link neighborhoods/exhanges

These are the 3 penalties that will get your site hammered like a home-run bat from super smash brothers! And if you have been b-slapped by google at least one of these 3 that I just named are mostly likely the cause.

Over Optimization Penalty Removal

If your site was an exact match domain with too many exact match anchor text links to compliment it you are probably going through this right now. Or if you didn't vary your anchor text enough then boom slapped down to oblivion!

The old way to fix this is to clean up your anchor text profile by making new links. But this is hard to do because new links take long to index and you need A LOT!

So what you want to do then is go in and remove those links all together.
This is how it's done....

Mission 1: Download Your Anchor Text Link Profile

This can be done with a paid membership to majestic seo or raven tools. With these kinds of sites you can download a csv of ALL OF YOUR LINKS.
In raven and majestic the anchor text links will be provided in a separate column. This is very important since the goal here is to disavow the links by anchor text.

Mission 2: Place Your CSV In Excel Or Google Drive Spread Sheet

Open your spreadsheet and highlight 3/4's of the keyword that you went overkill with. If you have an exact match domain target the keywords that match your domain name.

Example: If your domain was marioballoons.com and you over did the key word "mario balloons" highlight the links with that specific anchor text. Copy all of those links and paste them into a .txt file (one per line).

Mission 3: Submit Your Text File

You must have your site in Google Webmaster Tools. Take your text file and submit it to the Google disavow tool. After that wait 3 weeks for the chanhes to take effect.

Whoa What Just Happened

All we just did was de saturate our anchor text links aggressively to reverse a penguin exact match penalty.

Stay tuned for more. I'm not done yet.

That is awesome how you rapidly promote someone's post that you mostly disagree with. Surely he must be doing something right. "The money is in the list." I think I should credit aweber....or I should I? Who is the originator of that one? Whoops...

What the F are you talking about? I'm talking about how you stole someone else's content and posted it on here as your own with no credit back to the author.

        I'm not promoting anything.

Per Matt Cutts: the only people who are supposed to use this tool at all are people who received the 'unnatural links' notice. Others don't need to use it.

Face it: Google already know's your a cheater at this stage of the game. It would be more efficient to buy a new domain then carry on with this charade.

For the ones who are oh so quick to give up on their online real-estate in the blink of an eye when they get scared of what google might do to them because of a little slap on the wrist....follow his advice^.

Answer me this: Would you buy a new domain if you had an exact match domain that got penalized with a keyword that had low competition with 15,000 exact searches a day?

Yes, I sure would if got an 'unnatural backlinks' notice and didn't rank for the term anymore.

Your 'exact match domain' is nothing special. In fact, it's been penalized. Trying to conserve it by turning in link reports to Google makes you look foolish.

BTW, I didn't say to be afraid of Google. I'm not. Losing occasional domains is just 'the cost of doing business.' Besides, you don't need to be afraid of Google once your domain has already be essentially removed from the SERPs.

I didn't know an exact match domain under my ownership would yield penalized at this very moment when it's on the first page and has been there for some time for it's chosen keyword. Please inform me on how this is the case.

Here's some information: I have no idea what you're babbling on about

I take it English is not your first language as you seem to have missed my nuanced meaning in that sentence. Perhaps we'll just go our separate ways now.

Your so called meaning in that sentence means nothing as it is irrelevant to me.

Keep assuming things about someone you know nothing about. Questioning my first language is as foolish as everything you just said. Way to go.

Dude...let's clue in here. You have a link in your sig file. It leads to a web page. The web page leads to a home page. There's a video on that home page.

I clicked 'play' on the video. I watched 10 seconds of the video. I confirmed my assumption.

Per the official blog post, those affected by Penguin may also use it if they've been unable to get links removed.

Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: A new tool to disavow links

Q: Should I create a links file as a preventative measure even if I haven't gotten a notification about unnatural links to my site?

A: If your site was affected by the Penguin algorithm update and you believe it might be because you built spammy or low-quality links to your site, you may want to look at your site's backlinks and disavow links that are the result of link schemes that violate Google's guidelines.

Watch the video. Cutts explains it in detail. This is not a 'preventative measure.' This is for websites that have 'spammed' low-quality links. He outlines the types and mentions the 'unnatural links' message again. The average webmaster doesn't need to do this.

At the 3:00 minute mark he explains that only D-bags who used blog networks need this.

Yeah, ok. Just know that it ain't only for 'unnatural link' notices. You can't listen to one source alone, not even Matt Cutts.

Ok, so when people start getting notices for 'natural links' they should avow their links

Truth is, this barely impacts anyone. It's not a 'get out of jail free' card. It's just Google doing more phishing to identity 'paid links.'

Many sites have recovered from Penguin, Marvy.

It's a link penalty. If you change the backlink pattern and make it right you can get released from the penalty.

You should use disavow tool only when you are sure which link you should remove and which links you should keep, if you don't have clear understanding of this then it would be better if you don't use it.
