I started my internet marketing journey last february with an EMD Amazon review site. Those days micro niche sites with Exact match domains were still in trend and greatly favoured by Google.
My main keyword is "best pc for gaming" which is searched for about 1000 times monthly.
So far I have reviewed only gaming PCs on my site as the domain says so.
However, after 8 months of internet marketing experience and latest google algorithm changes I feel that an authority site which has lots of content and a generic domain name(I mean not exact match) is the best way to go.

So, what I'm planing is changing my available domain with a more generic one and review all kinds of computers like notebooks, netbooks, tablets, monitors etc..

My questions are
Is there a way of doing this without losing my backlinks and traffic?
How exactly can I do this?
Thanks
Kelik

Why not keep the current site to do some testing with? Copy the current content to your new site and use 301 redirects for individual pages.

WordPress › Support » Proper 301 Redirect in .htaccess

    Hi,

I have a question too.. Does your site were affected by EMD update? If not, then why would you change it? It's because you read something? Try some testing. I also believed that the domain name is not important as long as you deliver great valuable content to your visitors that are updated. Also, the quality of backlinks should be use in your site.

    Regards,

      I totally agree.
Even if it was affected by the update that doesn't mean you should abandon it.
Start seeing your sites as they are... web properties.
Some are more valuable than others but they all have some equity.

Build a new site and then see what works and what doesn't. Compare the two.. Make them compete with one another for the same keyword by hosting them on different servers and different ip's.

Wouldn't you want to have multiple spots on page one for your keyword?
