Diversity is absolutely key, and link velocity does matter but not how everyone thinks itmatters. It matters for getting too many high quality links at once. They wont penalize you but they won't credit the links for some time.

As always - consistent and continuous. This will never change. Type of links doesn't matter that much as long as you don't leave clear footprints (like links of certain type(s) only, overuse of the same anchor texts, clear link blasts etc). Of course it's nice to have some authority, high trust, high PR sites pointing at yours - but who will give you these for free nowadays unless you have some killer content??? Just build what you can minimising footprints.

But first and most importantly - create site for people and with people in mind. Make them stay on your site as long as possible, browse through many pages and regularly return for more. This will pay off multi-fold. So indeed content is the King as always, and great content is the Super King.

In the fact that, link building has always been a risk. This will be able to cotinue in 2013. So I think guest posting, infographic submission, article posting, link diversification, sharing content on social networks are the best link building techiniques until 2013.

And with time create backlink from diverse sources but at the same time make sure the backlink your are building for your website are relevant too. I always build my bakclinks manually otherwise I suspect you can actually hurt yourself. Forums are also good for backlinks... of course it takes time, but you get natural backlinks profile that google likes. and also you can get good amount of real traffic which is really valuable in the early stage

Please stop with the content nonsense, sure write good content for your visitors but don't expect other webmasters link your site for it, maybe that happensd in the IM and Game niche but if your niche is health/forex or any other niche the change other webmaster are going to link to your site is next to zero, no matter of you have the content written by Steven King.

If you're low on cash create a network of web 2.0 properties, do about 20 or so, make sure you have legit content on it, stuff that people will like, no spun stuff just real content in your niche.

That will keep your stuff up there and doesn't get deleted by the owners of the properties, when you have created them ad links to your target/money site, now ad links to them, use article blasts, scrapebox blasts, Xrummer blast, 2/3 tier.

also do this to your moneysite:

Add 10/20 nofollow comments a day on related sites from different platforms
Add 50/100 wikki links a day.
Ad 10 article links a day.
Ad your site to digg, redgit etc.
Ad 100 bookmark links a day.
Ad a press release.
Ad a video per week.

Wen you do that make sire you also target your inner-pages.

If you have some cash to burn i would advice you to build a blog network of aged domains, i have myself started a blognetwork and i am glad i made the investment in time and money, cus now i can rank my sites a lot easier then i used to when i only used the method above

I hyper links other pages of my website into keywords displayed on a webpage on my site. Link building to myself. I have a link page as well where I link to my blog which is on a different platform. Any top websites that I mention also get hyper linked back to their page.
