The Internet is altering so fast it can be hard to keep up with everything. I point out this Forbes article as I feel it is relevant to the discussion of the future of SEO. Feel free to comment.

WOW! thats a scary article but if you have person A and person B, and if they are both about to post about the same thing then person A who has a basic understanding of on page SEO will always "help" the google bots find his post faster than they would person's B post.

Since this mess started I been looking shrewdly at everything and in short I will state my finding as none other than conspiracy to control the search results. Now before label me a nutt. Let's look at some facts. Nearly every aspect of Web Standards set down by w3.org has been circumnavigated. What Matt Cutts sputters out of his mouth is pure BS. Google is not concerned about relevant content nor is the statement about removing web spam fully explained. In my research I have come to the conclusion that Google is purposely manipulating Page Weight for certain domains, many of which share the top search results for many high end keywords though there on page seo, Page ranks and backlinks clearly show enormous holes where an average novice SEO can snipe the hell out of it. Now the following screenshot I made on Oct 17th. Note the holes in the on page SEO on this highly competitive keyword phrase. The Phrase is "How to make money online" clearly highly competition for this keyword on a daily basis most would agree.

Now I want you to note result #3 and #4 . #3 is Seth Godins typepad blog and #4 is his Google+ Profile Page!. Surprisingly enough it has PR, DA index count and so on, however you would not see this in the actual Google results at that time. Further more much of the results that followed were well over 5 years old. Old documents from Forbes, About.com as well as a slew of YouTube videos on page 2 throughout, pushing actual web pages off the map. So what do these sites have in common, yet break most SEO physics, well they all have a connection to bilderburg insanely as it seems.

Prior to Sep 28th all we really had to contend with was wikepedia in the #1 slot, now things have changed where these super power sites dominate the results.

Call me a nutt I don't care, just look at the SEO, see who is ranking and why.

it is nothing scary and nothing new for me..

    i have seen it coming...

Seo will not die just has to change his tools !! That is all

I already work for what i have red... Seo's will have to focus more on the content quality and social signals ...

    that is all

my style of working is already there :

i do like this for my 100 sites :

    1. WRITE AN INTERESTING MEDIA RICH UNIQUE CONTENT about 500 words and above

    2. Ping to the major search engines

    3. Distribut to all my pages , groups, on Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Stumble... accounts

    4. Build a social pyramid with a marvelous tool with another 300 only good social links

    5. Post the article on my Account of three mega social share sites : Youlikehits.com, trafex.info and socialnetworkhits.com and put all the points in that url promotion : Facebook likes, Google +, Linkedin shares, Tweets and retweets, Pinterest distribution.

What do you think about that ?

so... do it yourself like this and you will never die...

People who quote this crap do it way out of context.

What they mean is, if you have a business, you need to get
        into the social game quick.

That is completely irrelevant to SEO. Most people who are
making money online, like here at the WF, do not care what
brand of jeans their friends buy, what hotel crazy Uncle Bob
stayed at last night, nor about the Aunt Sally's tea and crumpet
bake sale. But a hotel, Levi's, or The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf
        might.

Not me. But even for those businesses, they still will expect to
        get organic searches...

I dont see any reason for SEO to be "dying" to use the exact word. Google is only trying (to my limited understanding) to make things better. You know, may be these steps are necessary to eliminate those poor quality website taken to the top SERPs by talented SEOs.
Its good to see amends to search results in terms of weightage to quality original content and social signals.Social media isnt what it is now a few years back. So, its good as we see it plays tremendous role in how people consume data.
Now, its only a matter of time smart SEO chaps get back with new methodologies and keep pushing sites back into SERPS. I see it as a temporary set back. Now that it is a huge industry by itself, its not going to die without a fight for sure.

That guy gets paid to write articles that elicit emotions and makes people read them.. He won and he succeeded. Doesn't mean it is true... If I wrote an article that porn stars live at my house and my wife doesn't mind, does this mean it will happen or just some high hopes because if it did happen.. my wife would kill me.

This forum is just too boring

This has to be like the 4th time this same article has been used to start a thread.

So what if Google went all social (they never will ) and all content metrics etc? SEOs would just switch to that and keep on trucking. You all cry SEO is dead because to you SEO is running SenukeX or UD and blog rental networks.

I have checked our backlinks and cant find the 40 ezine articles submitted plus at least 100 others. Whats the point of submitting articles if they are not being indexed???

I have also checked the website in page 1 and i have no idea how that site can be on page 4 let alone page 1. Can anyone advice? Has article submissions finished?

According to me the article is missing a basic fundamental. They are talking about the 'death of SEO', while they do not know what exactly SEO is!!

It may sound funny but sadly it is very true. The people who comment like that treats SEO as some 'shady' practice which they have failed to understand even after numerous attempts!

Actually SEO is Simple if you get it. It improves your website reputation to the eye of Search engines, which in return send more traffic to your website. That's how I see it.

Google's results are junk these days. Search for phpbb problems and you'll see authority sites, yeah, but most of the articles for many queries are from 2008 and refer to obsolete versions of the software.

You can no longer find my product name on Google (this is a legit software product that's been around for 10 years), but you can find it on DuckDuckGo at #1. What nonsense is Google spinning?

Interesting article and I must say a lot of good points said too.

I believe SEO will stay as long as search engines are still here. SEO tools and specialists should be able to switch its ways of doing SEO. Right now, it seems that SEO is no longer needed because a large part of this is considered black hat.

Thanks for sharing the article, David. It was an insightful read.

However, I think the title of the article was a bit misleading. "The Death of SEO".

Overall, the conclusion of the article seems to be more that SEO is moving towards using social data for determining rankings as opposed to artificially created backlinks.

There are two main themes in all these responses...SEO is dead/will die, and others who disagree saying that you just need to adapt. Ironically, what appears as two sides to an argument are actually saying the same thing. Sort of a glass half full, half empty view.

Most of the "SEO will die" posts are referencing the fact that the bar is being raised, and eventually, it will be raised beyond their "pain threshold" where the work involved will be too great for the time and effort involved.

Can we keep adapting? Sure. But there is no question that Google is changing the game in ways that will make it very difficult to rank without authority, quality, and "real" content.

Top-notch design, credibility, social interaction, and real copyrighting that is researched and compelling will become more difficult to automate or otherwise manipulate. And the days of remaining in the shadows will come to an end for many who can no longer handle the "pain" of competing in the new environment that is surely coming (and arguable is already here)

Traditional SEO is dying. That's a fact. There will be some enduring outliers of traditional SEO, but for the most part, the paradigm has shifted. So the answer is not in crying,"The sky is falling!" nor is it in adapting the old system, but rather we need to adopt this new paradigm.

The goal of SEO is traffic. I've been in IM since 2002, and I think traffic generation is easier today than it has been in a very long time.

Google and the Internet itself are changing and evolving so rapidly that I can never be sure what the future holds for online marketers such as myself. With all the 'penguin', 'panda', and upcoming 'zebra' (?) updates, it just seems so tricky to get everything right. Therefore I read predictive articles from good publications (such as the one listed) to try and keep ahead of trends.
