I recently started a new website and now I'm writing articles for it. While the keyword density in the article is around 1%, the keyword density on the page is around 7% (my KW consists of 2 words). Now I'm wondering whether I should aim to have 2-4% in the article, or 2-4% on the whole page.

P.S. Most of the occurrences of the KW come from the categories' names and other sources.

Google looks at the PAGE - NOT JUST ARTICLE.

Keep the article Keyword density to below 2% and overall page density not more than 3%. Clean up the page.

      This.

Make it natural, use synonymous and dont spend any time working out the exact number of times you should mention the keyword.

Dont let the other guys here fool ya. Keyword density is exactly 3.62%. anything above or below that number will be penalized in the next update.

Did you find any studies or test that confirm this number? I'm just asking because it's a pretty exact number for a much-discussed issue and it's a bit strange that you came up with that.

I think google wants only quality content. Google don't much care about keyword density. But 1%-2% is good.

Forget about the keyword completely and just write the post and see what comes up. You have told the big G what to rank for in your keyword or tag settings. Put it in the title and then see how else it plays out. You will pick up more lsi type terms if you write naturally anyway. Just make sure that your title, meta and domain name do not all include the keyword otherwise you will get slapped.

Google like 1.5% keyword density from my testing. Just write your primary keyword to 1.5% keyword density, you will not get penalized in future google update.
