Domain masking SEO?

That's not masking.

Masking is when you set it up so the browser shows a URL different than the actual URL.

MLM'ers do it all the time. Their company usually gives them all these cookie-cutter sites that will have a URL that looks like

www.dumbopportunity.com/user/3858923593292-3349

So they "mask" it with another domain. The browser will show the visitor they are at

www.prettydomainname.com

when in reality they are at

www.dumbopportunity.com/user/3858923593292-3349

At least that is what I have always considered to be masking.

From what I have read, in the short term there is no problems with a 301 redirect.

You haven't done masking. You've set up domain forwarding aka URL redirection, aka URL forwarding.

That's a very common thing to do.

  If you have a bunch of links pointing to the domain that is redirected, then you'll get some of that juice flowing through to the redirected domain.
  
  If it is a new domain with no backlinks and isn't indexed, then it will have no affect.

Don't think it's that indexed and there are few backlinks to it, so I should be ok hopefully!
