How Google Adsense Works?

Hey everyone,

My hope is to get a definite answer to how Google calculate and credit adsense users for getting a click on their website. I have multiple sites and I am currently receiving a few cents from them daily but I will like to know how to maximize my cost per click rate so I make more money. Any ideas on how I can do that?

Thanks,
Clifford

Well Clifford, in a very simple explanation, advertisers bid on certain keywords and then when clicked you get a cut of that click. There are SOME things you can do to experiment but it really is going to come down to the niche your site is in, i.e. a site that focuses on cooking recipes will inherently get fewer $$ than an insurance site, have you experimented with ad placement yet to focus on increasing CTR? (something that is easier to affect than your CPC)

Thanks GXS for the great info. Actually, I have experimented with ad placement and I heard that having the ads on the center top increases my cpc ratio. So thats what I did.. i get an average of about 2 click a day but I have like 5 sites. My site is all about SEO which I think is a good niche?

Honestly I've "heard" a lot of good ad placement but the best way to actually find the ad placement is to test what works for you. How much traffic do you get daily? Test more than just 1 placement and ideally test over at least a week. Consider ad sizes, placements and text vs photo ads.
