Hi I am relatively new to IM. I made an xmas gift review site as an amazon affiliate..I only bought the domain a month ago and published the site last week. It is a site geared toward 2012 christmas (yes I know it is pretty late to get started on that)...what are some things I can do to get it ranked quickly?? Since the site will largely be useless after the end of the year, I'm willing to be aggressive with this site and risk getting it torched from google if the benefit is worth the risk..just need to know where to turn..

I have an article on SEO advice but SEO is a long process so it may not benefit you. What you could do is get some advertising vouchers online for AdWords and advertise your website. I suggest using banner advertising over text ads since they're more catchy and Google penalizes you for a low CTR. AdWords is great as you can make your ad as relevant as possible like only targeting English countries and only advertising during the day and since its owned by Google its extremely powerful and has a large audience of publishers. If you want to do SEO as well here's my thread: /adsense-ppc-seo-discussion-forum/703952-ranking-better-search-terms.html Also add me on Skype if you have other questions or want in-depth help: quickfruit. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I have thought of this method, and actually do have a $100 adwords voucher.. I thought the deal with adwords was that in most cases, the campaign would get flagged as a bridge page if youre linking to a page with amazon affiliate links. Is this not always the case?

If I were in your shoes, I would post a new keyword optimized (but not too optimized) article about once each day on your site.

Make them a good length (400 to 600 words, and some even longer), and make them on Christmas topics, i.e., christmas gifts for men, for women, for kids, last minute gifts, and other long tail keywords.

Also, tweet about each article and send people there. Set up a free gift on your site (make it something really cool, on Christmas of course) and invite people to get it.

Set up a Facebook page on it, and post about each new article. Write articles for article directories and send people to your site. Post a couple of press releases etc. Oh, and submit it to RSS directories.

Also, you may want to add a few Squidoo lenses (on Christmas topics) and add an RSS feed of your site (if it's a WP blog) to each of them, plus the offer for your gift that's on your site.

I think you get the idea. I think you have a good chance to have your site found if you do those things.

        Good luck!

        Elisabeth

There are a lot of elements that will go into how quickly you are hoping to rank (keywords, competition, etc.) - but with the Penguin update from Google, you are unlikely to get a site ranked quickly unless it is a great site. Make sure you have a great site first - and then get aggressive with it!

Yeah it looks like Google hate affliate websites unless you work on their terms and by that I mean become a Google affliate and then use AdWords, yup, Google is starting to show their competitive side. Or you could just screw the AdWords ToS and advertise your site anyway. They don't manually check websites and if you don't plan on using it again it doesn't matter if you get banned. You could also use other advertising networks but they aren't as good.

Lots of blog postsings, order blogvertising/blog posts, buy 1-2 directory links...

Use YouTube: create videos and place your link on the left part, right under the video. YouTube will let you do this. But that's "nofollow"...

Give momentum to your site with YouTube, do some social media advertising, write reviews and it might help a bit...

Indeed you should have started earlier, but there might still be a train to catch!

    Good luck!

    • If you have chosen a narrow niche with little competition, you can get decent rankings. Add keyword rich content, write unique product descriptions, and include your link in forum signatures, email signatures, social media profiles, etc. Consider using PPC.

    Hi AceszHigh,

Since you are using a new domain and site, it might be a difficult to rank quickly especially considering the amount of time that's left.

    There are a few options.

    - Using authority sites instead of your new site.
    - Using authority sites and redirecting the traffic to your new site.
    - Go after extremely hyper-targeted keywords that are profitable

Other than that, this thread might be what you're looking for:
