What Will Rank Better In Adwords?

I am relatively new to adwords but this has always confused me.

Let's say I was bidding on the term "car repair in pittsburgh" exact phrase yet I have competitors that are bidding on car repair - broad. Let's also assume that both ads have an identical quality score.

will the exact phrase with a lower bid amount be on top or will the car repair broad search with a higher bid get a better placement.

If you can please elaborate on who will get a better ranking and what factors will determine the ranking.

Thank You for your help

    Hi driven247,

One of the factors that determine Quality Score is relevance. It's important to understand that the exact QS is likely much more granular than the 1 thru 10 numbers displayed in your account.

Your ad position is determined by this formula:

Ad Rank = CPC bid Ã-- Quality Score

So if the the true Quality Score, (not the displayed score) is identical, then the highest bid will get the higher ad position. The actual Quality Score being identical would be very unlikely, especially in the scenario you describe.

Generally, an exact match keyword is more relevant than a broad match, so this factor would make the QS higher if all other factors are equal.

If the keywords are within the same ad group the exact match would be the default choice.
