Short Articles. Does It Affect My SEO Negatively?

Hi,

I have a blog where I love to write short articles. But does articles with, lets say, 100-150 words affect my blogs SEO negatively?

I know that the search engines love quality content, but do it actually hurt my SEO to have short articles?

    It doesn't hurt unless you are adding too many links. I believe for 100-150 words article you should have only one link, not more than that

      It depends on the value of the link. If it's a non-affiliate outbound link to non-scammy, non-spammy and safe site with some PR, Google values it. But it should have a normal pattern (not only to PR5 and above).

      But if it's affiliate links, I use to add the rel="nofollow" attribute to the links HTML so Google overlooks it.

    I´ve started to write articles from 300 words and I´ve reduced the rebound %.

    I´d highly recommend you to give it a try and it will get better.

    Natural articles with a limited number of links on them will not hurt your site's ranking. I have heard that long articles are better than short articles but not that much. You should not bother about it. Just keep your concentration in your article's quality.

    If you and I can convey a message perfectly into 150, 300 words...why does it need to be 400 or 500 words? Google won't give a %^%^&%^ as long as your site is useful and is playing by the rules if you're into Google SEO.

    Read numerous times that an article should be 400 or more..that's a standard most placed by directories and spread like fire, but the "recommended" standard word count once a good SEO sources suggested it and gets passed 10 times you'll end up with a totally different meaning.

    If its working for you and makes sense for your visitor...I'll keep it up!

    Not at all. Infact i have many to the point short articles (under 200 words) outranking many 600 words plus articles targeting the same keyword but seems like purposely stuffed with extra content just to make the article lengthier..

    Trust me article length has nothing to do with SEO

      Well i can't say about negative effects of article length cuz i never had so small articles on my sites but yes long articles do help me in ranking higher also they attract lot of long tail traffic.

      May be a 200 word article can outrank 600 word but that depends upon the trust of the source in Google. For same backlink profile of 2 sites i bet 600 words will rank higher than 200 words article.

            At least you hit it at right place once. Yeahh i am obsessed with everything thats related to SEO and everybody knows what a link is to SEO

            You aren't saying that an article with 600 words that has a keyword occurring 6 times will outrank one with 200 words with a keyword occurring 2 times? Or any other form of this ? Are you? Ohh comeon..

            The only advantage a long article has is that it can accomodate information about many keywords and hence can rank for many other keywords besides the primary but the claim that it will rank better for a keyword is nowhere close to reality..

            And that "trust of source in google" thing , that was hilarious

    No it does NOT give negative impact in terms on SEO for your site. As far as it is UNIQUE and well-written (without keyword stuffing) and target to human readers with good info on it. From my view point, usually human readers love short articles than longgggg articles, people are really lazy to read long articles. Rather you can give the information and details in short article and gain your visitors attention and make use of it..... !!! So, Short-articles are healthier than long ones

    I have ranked posts on first page of Google with just a title and 1 picture. Longer posts are easier to get to first page. That's about all their is to it. Backlinks and social signals are greater than whatever is on the page (unless it's duplicate content or one of the other SEO sins)

    If the articles you write are unique this will not make any harm but ... it is recommended to write large articles ... 1000 words and above and you will gain authorithy and proper rankings..

    Foer me it is a better idea to write 2 articles of 1000 + words than 10 x 200 words. But anyway it will not harm your site by any means...

      That's just not true in most cases. People do not want to read all the
      way to the bottom to find answers.

      There are articles and then there are articles.

      Yahoo answers is a perfect example of what people do searches and
      get. Many forums also get top billing for posts.

      How long are amazon.com posts?

      Wikipedia is a different animal. It's an encyclopedia. They have
      encyclopedia pages, which answer many questions for one subject.

      If you must do long pages, and I can't fathom why anyone would,
      do what squidoo, wikipedia, and other sites do. They put a table of contents
      at the top, with target links to various parts of the long article.

      But that's not for most people.

      It is better to have 5 different articles answering 5 different
      things, than one long article answering all 5 on the same page.

      You muddle things up too much when making long articles.

      You can rank with one word, two words, whatever. Has no
      bearing on ranking or authority.

      Anyone who tells you length matters, is following voodoo SEO.

    You can take that same amount of text/content (ex: 1,000 words) spread it out over 5 pages (example) & probably get double/triple SERP listings for the main keyword your targeting, all that with very little extra effort besides internal links. As always competition is a factor.
