I'm Disgusted With Google

As a SEARCHER. Every search on Google seems to be this way now. I searched "homepage design authority site" and ONE domain occupies the first page and 3 top spots on the 2nd page (warriorforum follows immediately). There's something to be said for variety, but I'm finding this in nearly every search I do. As a searcher, WHY is that's site's "about page", "contact page" etc more important to me than the information from another domain? I hope they start losing in the search engine wars soon. I can't see how other searchers find this useful.

Yeah, my site is gone from #1. In fact can't be found at all. Guess what's in place? A Facebook page that's scraped my content!

Google seem to be following Microsoft down the toilet.

lol....I'm sorry but that term gets no searches except people looking for long tail to rank for so your are not using it as a "SEARCHER" and therefore google could not care less nor should they.

      100% WRONG.

I'm redesigning my homepage. I'm specifically looking for the best layout for the homepage of an"authority" website. Looking at real authority sites, I noticed they do it differently. I now believe I'm doing it all wrong -- targeting a keyword on the homepage as if it were a Micro Niche Site

Has NOTHING to do with "keyword research."

And yes, the results THEY provide are their responsibility. Of course they'll never change until people vote with their feet.

Fine then its therefore all your fault for not knowing how to do a coherent search. Its total nonsense for an authority site to have a particular "Layout".

AUTHORITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LAYOUT.

So you are whining because Google gave you a poor result on a nonsense search . Seems to me they are pretty on target then.

What do you expect when you added "Authority Site" into your search phrase.. That sounds like you are being pissed at a family member for giving you gifts on xmas or upset because someone gave you candy on Halloween.

No real site uses that term except people that claim to be SEO Experts stating that that they own an "Authority Site" because it has X amount of content with X amount of words per article.

    Is this true?
I haven't found this type of result, anyways. But the news is really serious. I think google bot should not crawl about us or contact us pages.

One thing I wanna say that we should not forget that google bot is just a robot not a human. If the owner of any site wants google bot to crawl his contact us page then what can google bot do? Anyways I hope google will take care of this matter you have faced while searching and upgrade google bot accordingly.

Just set it as noindex and it won't do it. Any page you don't want indexed by google just set it as noindex.

It's not in the website's best interest to do that. They're perfectly happy to have their domain occupy the entire 1st page. I had one of my sites occupy the top 7 positions. Why would I change my site? This is GOOGLE'S responsibility.

This is a terrible post. If you dont want google to crawl a page just put no index/no follow on that page.

Who knows how google rates sites? They change the playing field every time that you turn on your computer. I find it impossible to keep up with trying to figure out what they want to maximize your SEO rankings.

Oh well, it is what it is.

Carl its not Google's responsibility to give a result that you like on a search term that gets zero searches per month. You can whine about it all day long like most marketers but google's only responsibility is to pay its employees, make money and satisfy REAL searchers for terms they really search for not some example you come up with that no one searches for.

I don't even know what you are talking about because it isn't one site on the first page and there is such a lack of traffic that NO ONE is even competing for this term so much so that this thread now ranks for it.

Its a new feature google rolled out based on Vegas slot machines. If you put in a nonsense term more than once it brings up more of the same site. the searcher then gets frustrated and leaves the site thereby saving google bandwidth. However if you do it long enough and do a search for something likce "Aces" or Clubs" and you get all the same result then you win a trip to Google headquarters complete with a free Pollo tropical dinner of chicken and Rice and Beans with Matt cuts serenading you on a harmonica with "Nobody knows the trouble that I've seen" (Yeah computer nerds have a weird sense of whats fun). After that you get to head home with a commemorative Gold DVD set of "Lost".

P.S. I've done the search from more than one Ip and cannot get the results the OP is getting either. I'm going to do some searches of card faces (try for Jokers) to see if I can win the DVD set and see the alternate ending of Lost (the broadcast one sucked no matter how people spin it). they can keep the rest of the prize - I have no interest in Matt Cutss spitting at me through a harmonica. I'd probably end up slapping him silly (or intelligent depending on how you see him) with my laptop displaying one of my bought PR6 aged domains and get it deindexed and a whole lot of other trouble.

I think Google is still in a transition stage. I find some searches useless as well but I think it will get better after they weed out all crap spam sites and determine what the good and useful websites. It's a process.

When you search for strange things, strange things pop up. Why people continue
to do parlor trick searches is just way beyond me.

Real people in the real world do real searches for real world help, info, and topic.

I am not sure why people continue to waste their time doing such
searches that are really for entertainment purposes. I can't say I
want to entertain myself doing that.

    I've got work to do.

I think their "nuke all who try to game the rankings" strategy is backfiring at least to an extent. Do a search for "internet marketing" and look at the crappy results they are showing.

Google often alternates its algorithm and sometimes they do it live on their site directly.
By doing this the statisticians there can better monitor where traffic coming from and how.\

Don't get so disgruntled cause your rankings fell off the first page- do something about it.
Go get more backlinks or try new approaches or strategies to get your site ranked high again.

Google is in it's baby phase and so is the internet, of course it's going to be ever changing - that's how stuff evolves.

How about Bing, maybe DuckDuckGo ? How do they do for that search term of yours.

Seems like you're looking for an ebook or something. Makes sense since that's probably where that "authority site" buzzword came from.

Okay, here's another. I'm looking for a content slider for my newly designed homepage. I entered "content slider script" and all I get are DynamicDrive links. I may go with one of their sliders, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for.

I know some think whatever Google offers you in your searches is perfectly fine with them, but AS A SEARCHER (the customer), I don't like full pages turned over to one domain. Just my personal observation. Some would rather pick fights rather than concede that some of Google's results just don't meet the needs of the searcher.

Not quite, actually it shows a sad tendency for small volume searches.
I'm observing quite similar things when I google the queries like the name of my company and some product. God knows what occupies the first 10 pages of results. Useless copies of youtube videos with 500 views at best, some ridiculous sites like alibaba, and other dynamic queries shops wtf? They are not even related. And yeah, there are about 60 results showing every single page of their outdated cms site with catalogue from 2010, but not the actual distributors nor even their new official site.
And not only that people cannot find and buy what they want, it take me some effort, money and time to outrank all this garbage even that I have a great site, with complete catalogue, articles etc.
Meanwhile, the very time I was indexed by Bing it brought my site as a second result for the company and #1 for the company+product, (though not at the actual product page but home page, but even that is more relevant... ) and also a number related sites promoting our products.
The problem with google is that if it assumes (very often wrong though) that you mention some official site or company, it would just spams the results with all the pages from the site and media junk without being able to find anything at all.
For the popular queries google does quite well though, and I never use bing anyway.

OP, do your search in Icognito if you are using Chrome, "private browsing" if you are using Firefox.

Just like MikeFriedman, i see 10 unique pages on page 1. Infact dynamicdrive is number 2 not number 1.

Op will never buy it and doesn't want to regardless if no one else sees the results he does. This is more about where his site ranks than anything else. I'd put money on it.
